Single Year Ruin Me?

Hello, I am going to be a junior and I was considering transferring to UF in the fall.

I was admitted as a freshman to UCF but over the course of the year I maintained a 1.88 GPA so I decided to attend CC in order to help me get back on track. In the year I attended CC I maintained a GPA of 4.0 in all my classes (Chm2, Bio2, Organic1,Organic2,Calculus,Physics1,Physics2).
Calculated on the UF scale, my final major GPA would be a 3.3 even with all A’s in the tougher upper-division prereq. courses.

The main culprit of my first low GPA was the depression that I had been battling since the end of senior year (the summer before college year- I had harbored many suicidal thoughts and slipped pretty far into an abyss). Since my failure as a freshman, I have received help for my problems through a psychiatrist and counseling.
I have no desire to go back to UCF, every time I go to that campus I feel ill and I just want to hide/disappear. I made no friends there, no connections, and I feel like an outsider when I am on campus. I would like to start afresh but this GPA is holding me back.
Is there anything I should/can do? Should I mention my battle and subsequent victory in my Transfer essay?

I would like to transfer to the CLAS/CALS Microbiology program in the Fall of 2012.

What school are you applying to?

University of Florida.
The Microbiology & Cell Science program at either the CLAS or CALS.
