:::throbb:::throbb::: That would be sound of the only vein I have about to pop. I will happily volunteer SluggJr and the rock band if somebody would borrow the van from the alley and remove them from my garage IMMEDIATELY. ::::throbb:::

Or, would you rather have the folk band he's been playing with, lately? Banjo, harmonica, upright bass, 2 acoustic guitars, accordian, violin -- they made 200 people stomp their feet and clap along at an impromptu gig in Berkeley a couple of weeks ago. The boys in the band will play for cake and spare Ninja Turtle parts. :)

Slugg-
so maybe what knocked CC of its tracks earlier today was a combination of us doing the happy dance and sluggJr's audience stompin it's feet!

SBson can join in on electric guitar or bass...

If we have enough guitarists (::throb::, sounds like we might) he can instead project one of his several my-T-fine skateboard movies for visual entertainment. That's SBson over there-- with the bangs that reach his chin, all 5'10' of him; weighing in at a trim 120 lbs including ipod & cell phone, and in his skateboard shoes.

Like the mix of party hats; Ninja Turtles, St Patrick's day, Arthur, Congrats on your Retirement (whoever brought that one-- their kid must've gotten a merit scholarship), Power Puff Girls, Alladin, Happy Valentine's day, and what-all...

WELL: I brought a tiara for andi. It is made of sapphires for the blue blue beginning of this tale, rubies for the true heart of a mother, emeralds for the green of greener pastures, and mostly diamonds for all the tears of empathy, pride, and joy we've cried over andison's saga.

So far I am liking "Andison II" a lot better than "Andison I". It's got a beat you can dance to!

Jym, believe it or not, I once made a Ninja Turtle birthday cake in the shape of one of the Ninja Turtle heads. I was big on themed birthday parties from the cake to the activities and the "projects" they made. I could get into this, it's been a while!

Soozie-
When my kids were young they were invited to a bday party for a friend's son. It was a ninja party. We drove up right behind a green VW bug and out of that car came a guy in a ninja costume (obviously the party entertainment). It totally freaked out my kids! They couldnt figure out why Donatello (or whoever it was) arrived in a VW bug!! What a hoot! That was a better story than the one where the magician arrived at the party the same time we did, but his rabbit had unfortunately succomed to the heat in his car or something, and wasn't going to be able to perform that day (or ever again) if you get my drift. I don't know how I timed these arrivals to coincide with the entertainment!

SBmom-
You coulda borrowed the tiara I wore for the awards ceremony for the 2000th post on this thread (see about post # 2005 or so for the details). Oh well, No matter. Now we'll have 2 for other occasions. That, or slugg can wear one too.

SBmom-
I'm the one dressed in the mortar board and gown with the multi-colored clown wig under the board. I decided to make it a costume party-- I'm going as Dennis Rodman graduating from kindergarten. Hope thats ok. Which hat are you wearing?? I think that's you wearing the hat that says "Fifty is an "F" word", yes??

Jym....ah the costumed characters at birthday parties.....One year, for my youngest third birthday, I think it was....was a Mickey/Minnie birthday....I made a Mickey and a Minnie cake and there was pin the bow on Mickey and Minnie posters I drew, etc. and we made Mickey and Minne masks....and Mickey arrived in costume and my Dad was willing to don the costume and my three year old really thought it was Mickey...I'm not sure which one had more fun, my preschooler or my Dad who told about it for years. For many of these themed parties, my younger one would leave the party right before the themed cake came out that I had constructed and change into costume to become whatever character went with the theme....Dorothy in Wizard of Oz, Beauty in Beauty and Beast, Kirsten in American Girl, etc. and reenter the party and stay in character greeting all her friends as if we had hired a character to come to the party! No wonder this kid ended up going into theater. This trip down memory lane just made me realize something. All those years she dressed up at her party in character to go with the theme and now she is in college and she has a paying job with a musical theater program in the city and she puts on musical theater shows around a Broadway theme, that are interactive for families who pay to have this company produce these birthday parties. I just realized she has come full circle. She doesn't don character costumes, per se, though the party is in character themes related to particular Broadway themes. No Ninja Turtles, however. I think I'll remind her that she is still doing the character thing at birthday parties like the old days!

Well, back to the adult party now.....I'm past the kids' birthday parties here!

::: Ptui!::: ::::shaking the streamers from my hair:::: Man, this is one hecka-great party!! :) :p :D :o   :)

Andi, I just went back and read your post from last April and your follow-up post from last September. Your post from September with advice for this year's college applicants had over 20 thousand views. Imagine how many seniors and POS (parents of srs) read your story and made their college choices based on your good advice re: safeties. Good job, A! Many, many good wishes to Andison, a most deserving froshling-to-be! :)

SluggJr is celebrating his 18th in style with friends from Cal at a very hip Japanese restaurant/jazz club in Oakland. Pop the corks on a case of 1988 Bollinger R.D. French champagne, compliments of SluggH and SluggMoi -- A toast to The-Juniors-From-Hell who finally become Amazing, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, Seniors!! Make room in the tangerine booth for two very relieved and very tired parents of now-legal-adults. Alu, I'm throwing the car keys to you!

SBMom, I'd love to see SBSon's my-T-fine skateboard movies! Jym, my head ornamentation for the night is a pair of leftover Mickey Mouse ears from one of Sooz's themed kid birthday parties...and a handwoven dress made from shredded report cards, notes from the Principal, and field trip permission slips. Woo-hooooo! H is wearing a layered tee-shirt collection of the 11 colleges SluggD applied to (3 years ago). Woooo-hooooo! :D

my my slugg- you sure are a snappy dresser.
Pour me a glass of the champagne, please. A vintage year. Nice and yeast-y. Classy. Nothing but the finest in this joint.
Lets see if the alterations place down the street will embroider your name on the mickey hat. That way we can find you when you stagger off. That, or we'll be able to find you by seeing your signature forged on one of those shredded hall passes you are wearing.

Slugg, I see those car keys and I raise you! AluSon failed his test for his permit!!!! And he had to try three times to even take the test because he forgot things like his SSN and a parent's signature etc....This is the one who could write his name at two and memorized the words to Sondheim's Into the Woods at 3 1/2..."Dwarves, dwarves are very upsetting..." Trust me, it's a great song.

Anyway, I'm still in the game for another two years and a few months. Will be taking S and two friends up SNOWBOARDING in a week and a half as an early 16th birthday party. Pray for me. But at least once we get there we don't have to drive. Just clomp around in ski boots. Don't you hate that part:)

Are we still having the party for Andison? Hoo yah!

slugg, the thing about skateboard movies... what is the point of them? I mean, how many permutations are there?

Times of day, 4: day/ night/ dawn/ dusk

Tricks, 5: Scraping board along curb, scraping board along hand rail, jumping board over nothing, jumping board over something, toodling along a nice flat cement area doing... stuff.

People, 1: slack skinny guy with low slung pants falling off his A$$

4 x 5 x 1 x 6... I get 120. A Total of 120 possible skateboarding shots...

Oh yes, I forgot. DIRECTIONS!

Directions, 2: Back, forth

Okay thats 240 possible shots, MAX. So how come my son has spent the last two straight years filming hundreds of hours of film? And he's still going strong? Can someone offer me a ray of hope story about their former skateboard filmer who outgrew the phase and is now at MIT? ;)

Sounds intriguing , does he wear a helmet cam? Is there a sound track? You know, one could say the same about Warren Miller's films ;).....

While everyone else consumes mass quantities and basks in the glow of completed application bliss or enrolled college student quiet, our household is entering crunch time.

For a fine art student, like my D, now is the time to pump and pimp up precious portfolios for potential price plummeting from previously perilous pecuniary precipices! I may change my name to FountainSire... ;)

Yes, merit aid time for the artsy comes later than for the rest. D has a deadline of this Friday for Scholastic portfolio competition, Feb 15 for MICA portfolio competition, Feb 22 for Cooper Union art home test and Mar 1 for School the Art Institute of Chicago. Will be crazy here for the next month, so have a few bottles on me.

Although I came late to the CC party, Andi, this Iron City's for you and your son!

Slugggg--congratulations on making it to #18 with your supercalifragilicious young 'un. I think I know the jazzy Japanese Oakland club of which you speak--it's one of those places I've always wanted to go but never have! That does it. I'm making a list of all the great Bay Area things I want to see and do (but haven't due to being locked up with my five little, ah, five 'lil sweetpeas for a very long time), and I'm doing 'em all before I turn 50. (I have a little over a year . . .) Yeah! I'll do anything to get out of here. Where's that skateboard movie showing? How about a Bay Area premiere! All of us CC'ers can go. You'll recognize us by our tiaras.
