Just sent the sluggboy out the door for Senior Ball #2. He is doing a favor for a friend from another school after her date bailed on her at the last minute.

They looked beautiful -- red roses and Dendrobium, again. This time it was very different. She picked him up in her car, and two pictures later on our front porch, off they went. Her arm thrown over the back of his shoulders, gestures and grins of friendship between 18-year olds. They are senior year pals, the kind of friends you think about 31 years later when your own kid is backing out of the driveway on his way to the Ball.

This moment was brought to you by the last LAST progress report! I'm pretty sure that this is the very last one -- ever...unless, the high school sends us one next Fall out of sheer habit.

On a sad note - I can use a drink. I just can't get the vision of Barbaro breaking his leg in the Preakness out of my head. I don't know if they'll be able to save him. Their legs are just so delicate.

Can you believe my S called again today? He had dinner with one of his profs--just the two of them--My H and I had dinner with this same prof when we were students (yes, we are alum's of S's school)--that would be, hmmm, around 30 years ago!

Gosh, first I was happy, but this is the THIRD call from one who never calls. Now I'm starting to worry. He's not coming home this summer, for the first time. Maybe he is feeling a little lonely. Though he sounds fine on the phone . . . Gee, I get what I wanted, finally, and now I'm worried!

Life as a mom. SBmom, hope D is delicious. Mstee - well, damned if we do and damned if we don't. Slugg - I tell you, I have great hopes for SluggS.

I get my D in a week. I went into her room today and gazed at her bed and imagined her here. She is like having more than one extra person. We miss her.

Hint: its a kind of hat. Coming your way from Southern California.

We get your storms, you get our hats!

Its sort of a huge looking, flat-billed baseball cap with a rapper feel. Oh yes and they leave the tags on, like beanie babies. At least the tags are stickers and don't dangle.

Son finally sent orchestral music from this year! I got to hear his solo.......his roommate is a physics guy and has a fantastic music group so I got to hear that as well. And a few new compositions a la 1920s. Better late than never. And he doesn't have finals until early June and then will be staying put with a job. I can't believe a year has just gone by.....I have my tickets though!!! CA, WI, New Mexico here I come.

This work thing is way overrated. I liked it when I had more time to hang with you Alley Cats!

Been driving to and fro in my six weeks back in the working world, but the longer time went on, the worse the car smelled. Couldn't for the life of me make out what it was, until I bought something from the hardware store.

Open the trunk and there they were: the college admissions marmots had escaped through the mail slot and taken up residence in my car. Some had residual duck/duct tape marks in their fur, and they had brought stacks of college junk mail to subsist on. Sadly, they were VERY regular. Cleaned the car up, gave them a marmot bath and shampoo, and now release them into the general SA pool (careful in the deep end!)

I reserve the right to call them back for my DS in five years when we go through this again...

DD has her prom on Thursday. She made her dress, and, as the proud papa, I must admit I am impressed. She sold hee first painting in our all city art competition. She has been working on her validictorian speech, and looking for a summer job.

She is so ready to move on the the next phase of her life, and her enthusiasm is infectious. All is good.

Best to all graduates, high school and college.

Next rounds on me and the marmots, who prefer carrot juice.

Bumping to rescue from "page 2 hell," as well as to rescue all Sinners from mudslinging threads about nothing. ;)

Time for a little cocktail!

I am so happy to have D home. A nice, reasonable, mellow, fun, helpful, competant FEMALE person-- to balance out the shenanigans of slackerboy and littlestboy and all their testosterone-laden antics, loud voices, pi$$ing contests, etc!!!

Hallelujah, the drought is over; girl energy flowing in our house again! :)

Let's hear it for girls. SBMom, if those boys misbehave you and D just turn the hair dryer gun on them:)

And speaking of boys - anyone heard from jmmom yet where jmson will be attending come September? I hesitate to ping her because of not wanting to provide annoyance...

OK- we are here on the east coast for Wild Child's graduation tomorrow. Tonight was Baccalaureate, which was lovely, and the senior assembly. The weather is perfect and the campus is beautiful. Wild Child made Cum Laude (sort of like Phi Beta Kappa for prep schools) and won the history essay prize. We have waited a LONG time for this moment, and we are enjoying it! My daughter came with us and isn't being too b--tchy, even though this event involves her errant brother. My stepson flew out from Texas, and my sister and family came up from Phila tonight for the senior dinner and to see the campus. We are having so much fun. It has all been worth it- he has had the best educational experience we could have possibly provided (after a few false starts....).
Keep us in your thoughts, because after all this celebrating, Wild Child is having some knee surgery on Friday to try to fix the problem that has sidelined him from running since last August. I'll stay out here for a week to help him recover and start rehab. H, daughter and I have a BIG bottle of champagne for tomorrow night to celebrate while Wild Child is at a graduation party doing his own pre-surgery and post-graduation celebrating.
Drinks on me!
