Pretty cool birthday present, tho! It’s the thought that counts?

^^^ mommusic-- I think the gift was kinda my idea :o but in all hondsty- its a boomerang gift. The boys are into the big technology, not me.

Reneev-- its her mom whose b’day is also 626. Happy upcoming momday!

Why don’t get an UHF antenna. Most popular, regular, local channels are now digital. Free.

Longprime. We had the antennae discussion. My H wants to get rid of his current radio thing and get digital radio with the tv, so we’ll probably do that. But I didnt realize the free local channel was DIGITAL. I thought it would also come in in a square.

OK, off the technology subject, but maybe someone here can help me. While I was cutting the grass just now, I once again tried some of the wild strawberries that grow in our yard, and once again they tasted to me like styrofoam with tiny seeds. Does anyone else appreciate the “delicate” taste of wild strawberries? Am I a genetic anomaly who will never appreciate Ingmar Bergman either?

Oh, the shame!

Sadly the wild strawberries that grow in this country taste like dust. You need to go to Europe to get good wild strawberries. You can grow European style wild strawberries. They are called “Alpine strawberries” or
“fraise de bois” and in my experience they self-seed a bit around the garden. They grow in clumps not in messy vines.

BTW I’m not of fond of Ingmar Bergman either.

Your wild strawberries are probably not ripe yet ,or it could be that little birdies and micies beat you to the ripe ones. I have a hill covered with *Fragaria Vesca/I, which produces enough for both us and the little critters, and those berries are the best for making the most fragrant strawberry preserves in the world. Have to say I’m not fond of Bergman either.

jym- Happy Birthday! Enjoy the TV. Some shows are not meant to be “stretched” to fit the whole width. It’s something about the aspect ratio, but I really don’t know what I’m talking about here…

Thanks, MOWC!
Hope you have recovered from the wedding festivities. I am seriously technologically challenged, but fortunately the males household members are not and can get this sucker runnin’, I hope! For now, slow response when we change channels, and a square picture. I can cope.

Thanks, mathmom! I do believe these are the wrong kind of berries.

Aspect ratio–my S the math major explained it so it made sense at the time, sort of, but I couldn’t tell you if my life depended on it.

Been away for a couple of days, but I’ll chime in now w/ (early) birthday greetings to jym. That same celebratory event is coming up for me very soon. Perhaps you’ve all seen the TV previews for it? Oh sure, it’s always disguised as the “Summer Olympics,” but I know better. That Opening Ceremony? My birthday present/gala, thank you very much!

^^^^ OOh congrats CBBlinker!! We’ve already planned to watch the opening ceremonies on the behemouth tv here in SA, so now we have more to celebrate!!

DH just metioned that he has a digital tuner (itty bitty little thing for such a big tv). He’s been using it on his computer but plans to try it on the behemouth. Stay tuned (ooh, I made a pun..)

So – just heard on the news that a new “experimental sport” being tried out at the summer Olympics is “Rocks, Paper, Scissors, Shoot.” I have no idea how you compete in that, but if that’s a sport, there must be hope for those of us in the above mentioned birthday category to become Olympic contenders. Maybe in the “Witty Comments” or “Parental Advice” category?

Rock, Paper, Scissors??? It’s not near April 1 so it can’t be a joke.

Unlike that report I heard over a year ago that the Boston Celtics had decided to be known as the Boston “Keltics” (that’s the oh-so-correct pronounciation, you know.) They had me for a bit until I realized what day it was!

[abc7.com: Rock Paper Scissors champion Sean Sears represents USA at Beijing Summer Olympics 6/23/08](http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/bizarre&id=6222651)

Apparently they just held the US Championships to determine who will represent us in China …

speaking of strawberries I cant believe I actually paid money for 4"pots of these things
[Beach Strawberry](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beach_Strawberrylast) last year. I planted them as a ground cover to fill in until some other things grew & boy did they ever!
I am now ripping them out and potting them up to give away when our street has their party(heh heh)

^^they’ll be baaaack…

I love block parties.
I have an early memory of a street party with a whole row of kids holding hands broadside across a street. Someone was in front of them, teaching them a dance or something.
My kid was turned absolute a-backwards. I said to spouse, “I think I see his whole life stretched out before him.” It’s been different drummers, ever since.

Meanwhile, I heard spouse and an agemate male neighbor commenting on all the teenaged girls. (Between us 2 couples, we had 4 little children 6 and younger).
They were even pointing, “She looks good, don’t you think?” and the other guy would answer, “Naah, I’ve already tried her. Disappointing.”

When they realized they were identifying babysitters for the coming year, they laughed and said, “now we’re REALLY old.”

Where’s the SA virtual summer street party?

You mean when’s the SA virtual summer street party. Block party…whatever.

I think we should have one 4th of July weekend.

I’ll be traveling, but ya’ll go on without me!

I love the idea of a block party! Fun!!

Do we need to move to a less sleazy part of town before we bring out the crepe paper decorations for our block party?

I want to have a bicycle parade to kick it off, with playing cards in the spokes of my rear wheel, crepe paper woven through the spokes of my front wheel, and crepe paper streamers.

Can I win the Miss Sinner’s Alley contest? I came in second in the last block party swimsuit contest I entered - at neighborhood day camp when I was five. I want another chance. Please. Pretty please?
