could’ve sworn I saw that beer bong hat over in the Man Cave

p2n!!!
Did you steal our beer bong hat again?!?!?!?!?!
Bring it back-- full.

happy bday jym – I’m the only one here (?) who shares a need for NOLA entertainment – so I’ll save my celebratory suggestions for August. Still – enjoy the day/night. Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday JYM!

HB, jym. Many happy returns!

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY birthday (or evening)!!!

Phoooooooooooot Phoooooooooot (those blow-into-them-and-they-unfurl-thingees)

Ice cream! We need ice cream and booze. Ice cream and kahlua and, I don’t know, chocolate chips?

Phooooooooooooot Phooooooooooot

mafool–are you putting ice cream in the kahlua, or kahlua over the ice cream? I could see it either way, actually.

I think we have two tiaras—one for the winner of the swimsuit competition, and one for the birthday girl of the day.

And birthday guys, in lieu of a tiara you can wear a beer bong hat. Or those deely bopper thingies.

It’s getting noisy in here, what with all the phoooooot phooooooting & birthday singing! :D

mommusic, you raise an interesting point. I originally thought Kahlua over the ice cream, BUT now that you mention it, the notion of Kahlua floats is interesting (and very sweeeeet). So we need to cut the Kahlua with vodka in a variation of a white Russian: Kahlua and vodka in a glass with a scoop of ice cream. The SA chocolate soda!

jym,
I hereby lift a kahlua and ice cream soda in your honor! Hope the new restaurant was terrific!

Sounds yummy!

I will freely confess to having used vanilla ice cream in coffee when there was no milk of any kind in the house. DH takes his coffee black but I think he was coveting mine that day!

Woweeeeee!!! All this singing and tooting (out of those unfurleey things)!!! Parrrtay!!
I just got home-- dinner and picking up DS#2 at the airport. IvoryK- heres one piece of NOLA news-- Raving Brands (Flying Biscuit, Mama Fu’s, etc) sold the PJ’s name back to the original parent company-- no more franchises owned by Raving brands, if I understood it correctly.

Ok , back to topic. There has not been good airplane karma for the jym626 boys these past 2 days. Younger s’s flight was delayed 1 1/2 hrs out of NOLA. Long time spent in the Louis Armstrong airport. But-- BUT as my birthday present, he signed up to let me see his grades. What a kid. Did I mention we need his grades anyway to get the (hopefully) good student discount on our auto insurance?

The restaurant we ate at was , sadly, disappointing, but as they dont yet have their liquor license, we were able to bring a bottle of wine and had no corkage fee. The bottle was seriously yummy, like incredible. Did I mention incredible? It was incredible. 1992 Beringers Private Reserve. Incredible. Anyway, I invited the waitress and the hostess (they were the only wait staff in the place) over to taste it. The poor waitress was not really familiar with what she was drinking, but the other woman (the hostess/bartender/jack of all trades person) was more famiilar with wine. SO I was glad to share it with her. That was fun.

Finally heard from s#1. He made it to Milwaukee (13 hrs late!!) but did get a lont done today. The kicker-- there is some HUGE music festival going on there thise next few dats. He was on his way when he called. Cost-- $12. Who was he hearing? Stevie Wonder. Can you say JEALOUS!!!

Can’t believe I never stopped in here before!!! Enjoying a cranberry and Grey Goose while I pack for the soccer tourney in Indiana. Still have laundry going …it may be a long night!!!;)

Did someone say Kahlua & ice cream? Brings me back to my college days … During exams, the dining halls opened for late night study/snack breaks. One year some guys got the bright idea to add Kahlua to the soft serve ice cream machine at the end of dinner – to be sure it was “ready” for the study break. There was a line out the door for that machine!

Welcome NorthMinn!

binx–grab a drink on your way out! And some peanuts!

Thanks, binx!!

The beauty of SA is that NO ONE is out of place here!! Happy to have you, and thanks, truly, for stopping in (even if it s a little too lowbrow in here) to share your best wishes.

Yes, Binx, this is a truly welcoming place! I remember the first time I ventured in a little more than a year ago–I was looking over my shoulder the whole time to see if anyone I knew had seen me come in. You see, in my family, drinking establishments were not places for nice ladies, and IRL I was in my early 40s the first time I got up the nerve to join some colleagues for lunch at a local tavern on a teacher work day…and that wasn’t that long ago (I’m still in my 40s for another six months). So just relax and enjoy the great atmosphere and fabulous company!

By the way, in case you all need another occasion to commemorate, it’s Siebenschlaefertag today. Apparently whatever the weather is today, that’s what we can expect for the next seven weeks, or so my German neighbor told me this morning.

I just saw the headline about Muskrats and the levee in Missouri. If only they had SA marmots instead.

Thanks for the welcome! I actually crept in here once before - in 2005. When I have to search through more than 6 or 7 pages to figure out what the heck folks are talking about, I begin to feel seriously out of place. Brings back all those middle school feelings…

Had to look up Siebenschlaefertag. Never heard of it! Couldn’t figure out what “Seven Sleeper Day” could possibly mean. Seven more weeks of warm, muggy weather, huh? Believable.
