The best was my ballet recital costume from when I was 6–she sewed a purple/lavender Sugar Plum Fairy costume. I guess all the moms had to make them in those days? about 1960. SO cute.

Someday I hope to have a granddaughter who can use it to play dressup. ;)

I have saved some of my kids’ cutest little outfits. But I do not save EVERY greeting card sent me & DH by every person we have ever known or been related to. Unlike my mother…

We were raised by the same mom! My mom sewed matching purple tutus for my daughter and her teddy bear to go with a book about a girl and her bear called “Dance Tanya”…

My favorite saved item is either the ice skating skirt my grandmother sewed for me in ~1967 (purple and magenta and lime paisley) or the first book I wrote (at age 4) entitled “Wigs.” The moral of the story was: “wigs are good.” My sister takes the cake though. She made a picture of a dog and cut off some of her own hair and glued it on for fur.

Is there a genetic link between artists & whackos?

OK, I came back from vacation and looked at my computer screen and said “Who changed my settings? The fonts all look smaller!”

LOL. Nobody changed anything. It’s like the phone book getting printed in smaller typeface these days. Only when you can’t stand your screen layout anymore, you just find the button that makes the font a size larger, which is what I did.

Hey Sybbs!
Thanks for rousing the dead. I’ve been dealing with trying to get the cable upgrades straightened out for that new TV we bought. I’ll spare you all the challenges we have had (as the jury is still out as to what will be happening) and I sadly anticipate that we haven’t seen the last of our problems with Comcast. During the course of this, I noticed something thar really got under my skin-- and for any and all of you who have Comcast Cable, check your bills! We began receiving this monthly throw-away tv guide-type thing from Comcast. We dont have all those premium channels and the guide is virtually impossible to decipher anyway. So, the guide quickly went to the “recycle” pile. Then, during the course of trying to get our service changes (and sepaking to some nice, and some not at all nice customer no-service reps) I discovered WE WERE BEING BILLED FOR THE CHANNEL GUIDE at $3.40/month. What a ripoff! Didn’t ask for it, didn’t order it, don’t want it. They did take the $3.40 off the bill, but I will watch the bill like a hawk to be sure it doesnt reappear. Stay tuned. A quick search of the internet found lots of blogs by people whe simply HATE Comcast. I have seen this before, but I thought Comcast had planned to clean up their act. They hve not. Pity. This is why I hate monopolies. I don’t want a satellite as we have (embarassed to admit) way too many tv’s in our house. Yes, we’ll be empty nesters soon, but still want to be able to use most of the TVs and don’t weant to have to pay for all those boxes. So spread the word about the !@##$%%% channel guides, and get the fee removed from your bill. I wonder if that price varies by location. Anyone else have the fee? If so, how big is it?

Yeah, I don’t hate TWC… but I had my “monopoly” story a couple of weeks ago.

S added a digital box for the new HDTV he bought himself. So I was checking the bill with the new charges and had to call them. They had line itemed his new charge but the rest of our bill is “bundled.” When I asked for the unbundled price of “just TV” and “just high speed Internet”, the two numbers added up to LESS than what they’d been charging us for the bundle.

When I pointed that out, after some hemming and hawing, the staff person agreed to credit our bill for the difference for THAT month. When I pointed out that they had been overcharging us for MONTHS, possibly YEARS, she credited me for the past 3 months and said that’s as far back as they are “allowed” to go.

I haven’t fought back yet. But am considering contacting higher higher higher ups by email.

You all are making me nervous as I’m not one to go over my bills very carefully. I think I’m going to have to make more of an effort in the future - but at the moment, I’m afraid to go over the old ones.

Time to find Curmmie & Dodds. I think that we need so grub here. How about some great french food (or even some great french pastries) to go with our french wine in honor of Bastille Day.

We know that she rarely comes over on this side of town, but I heard that Marite can be quite the party girl.

oohh -la-la maybe she will bring us some handsome french men!!

Remember, no storming the bar because we don’t tear up where we live!!

Back from our annual week at family camp in NH – been going since S was 1. Maybe not everyone’s cup of tea, but we love it. My favorite part is we show up at the dining hall 3x/day, they feed us, and we leave – so no cooking or cleaning up for 7 glorious days! Lots of sun, lots of reading, lots of chatting, and quite a few happy hours. Alas, no marmots.

Catching up w/ previous posts – since moving 2 years ago, we have Comcast for phone, internet and tv. No problems (knock on wood) and no tv guide or charge for same.

No cooking or cleaning for 7 days does sound glorious!

Worst vacation for mom: when we spent a weekend on a houseboat once when the kids were small. With another family. The guys had a great time, drinking beer and driving the houseboat. Other Mom and I spent our time cooking and shepherding the kids (who all wore life jackets every waking moment.) :O

I had the exact same “vacation” once on Lake Powell. Only the other family was a divorced dad at the helm, leaving me the sole mom. Also, I was 7 months pregnant! NICE!!

Well, I’m off on my first mini-vacation of the summer tomorrow, with S#2 (the former TFSFH). I won a package at the spring public radio auction, so we’re doing a mother-son weekend at Laguna Seca for the MotoGP (that would be motorcycle grand prix races). He is in heaven at the thought of visiting the paddock area, drooling on the shiny (and later dirty) bikes, and smelling the fumes as they roar past. I am looking forward to the spa at the fancy hotel at night, and the wine with the meal that’s included.

And oh yeah, spending a weekend with him before he leaves for another year. :)

SBmom, I hope you will try Lake Powell again with better company and older kids who can take some responsibility! It is one of the most gorgeous places on earth, though it takes hard work!! I do not recommend it pregnant or with toddlers.
