@kiddie I am also drinking Aperol spritzes this summer. My other summer drink is a Rose sangria. I add a bit of St Germain elderflower liqueur and Cointreau to my wine with fresh blueberries, strawberries and a slice of orange and it is very refreshing.
It’s almost always ice cold gin martinis or Manhattans here, but we’re dealing with some serious heat right now (112 today), so we’re enjoying alcohol popsicles from Costco:
What a fun way to beat the heat. Slurp!
Sadly we can’t buy those in my location but they sound like a great treat! I actually thought of you, @ChoatieMom, not too long ago when (on separate occasions) I had Mr. Sabaray make me a Manhattan and a gin martini, recalling those were your drinks of choice. We tried a new to us gin - Citadelle and it was definitely enjoyable in a martini.
I went back and read the original post, which made me think of something my uncle always says, mostly about my mother- “Don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story!”
My mother is know to exaggerate and/or mix up multiple stories, especially when telling something about the kids; the story with be about the wrong child, mix with an event of another child. It is not a forgetful thing, or do to age; she has been doing this since I was a child!
@snowball , is my brother your secret relative?
He and his wife both tell wonderful family stories, in great detail. These stories not only usually feature my family in a subtly disrespecting way, but are patently false. “That Christmas when Dragonmom’s family and we were all in the cabin and her children …”. Umm, we were never there during Christmas.
Hmmm, in my family those stories always wind up being true…!
Lol, @HamSBDad .
Too hot here to hang out at the fence, so I’m here for a g&t and some light conversation.
@dragonmom a good porter wipes away the disturbing mental images for me.
Hope I’m not being repetitive but any good frozen drink ideas besides the usual daiquiris, pina coladas, or margaritas? Unless of course you have a great, different kind of margarita concoction…
I posted this elsewhere, but we do a whole grapefruit, some Deep Eddy’s grapefruit vodka, cran raspberry juice, a little lime juice, and a bunch of ice in the blender.
It’s really tasty. If you want exact measurements I suggest starting with 4 oz cran raspberry and 4 oz deep eddy’s, plus just a squeeze from the plastic lime or half of a real lime.
@1214mom That sounds delish!
Whiskey & soda water for me tonight!
While we are suffering in the AZ heat, missing our annual trip to our friend’s island cottage in Maine, said friend just pinged us his original recipe for a cocktail he is preparing to serve lakeside this evening:
In a large, iced glass, pour 1 3/4 oz ice cold blueberry vodka, 2 oz ice cold cranberry juice (unsweetened). Drop in 20 to 30 fresh Maine blueberries picked from your own bushes, 2 oz of simple syrup, and juice of quarter lemon. Immersion blend until fully combined. Strain through micro strainer into iced martini glasses. Add three blueberries as a nod to the 3/5 beat of Dave Brubeck’s Take Five, and garnish with a lemon twist.
So cruel.
That’s just cruel. Come up with some frozen citrus cocktail and google some impossible garnish. Photo yourselves with said cocktail on patio. Save photos for next winter…
I like the way you think, @dragonmom. Lifting my freezer pop to you!
My DIL sent a video last night of her daughter holding a popsicle in her hand. When asked what time it was, while GD was saying “popsicle time” if sure sounded like she said “vodka time.” As DIL was solo parenting a very busy 22 month old for the day, she was in full agreement to vodka time!
So somebody pour me something cold. Almost anything will do. I just failed my first online session of “gentle” yoga. I didn’t know I’d have to bend my knees or move my hips. Glad I didn’t buy the mat. I guess it’s time to talk about those joint replacements but not until I finish this drink. My elbow still appears to be in good shape.
And I hope someone will stick around to help me off this stool…
@ChoatieMom, maybe the drink would have been helpful before the yoga.
Probably. Do they make a Downward Dog cocktail?
ETA: Why, yes, yes they do:

I found one with beer, but I don’t like beer, so maybe I’ll try this one the next time I’m not doing yoga.
I am no yoga expert, but I recommend more cocktails until Savasana becomes second nature.
