Sinner's Alley Happy Hour (Part 2)

Does anyone have quarters for the juke box?

Could you pick

‘cause it’s sorta required
and

‘cause last night was kind of rough.

Boring Pinot Grigio.
Usually it’s a margarita.
Thought I’d change things up this evening.

No fun stories to share…yet. Sorry.

But my dog looks like he wants what I’m drinking.

Bc he’s had a very hard week. Losing body parts near and dear to him.

Can I get something really strong? Kid and her now husband are traveling for the next two months, and their cat sitting plans fell through. So she is bringing her felines here… I expect a feline version of WW III. Kittymageddon, here we go! :black_cat: :black_cat: :cat2: :cat2: :black_cat:

Don’t know if I’m better at this than captioning a couple of English geeks, but here goes.

My daughter brought her boyfriend and his brother over for dinner and made some great enchiladas (sorry, the strongest drink was a Dr. Pepper, but I really could have gone for one of those grapefruit cocktails).

We all had a great time talking about a million different topics including how many concussions and broken bones each of us have had (me, one - my big toe), how there is an unfairness in the amount of day before a holiday time off fed employees get depending on their Agency: Defense, 59 minutes because they’re tough; Transportation, 3 hours because Pete is cool; Interior, 2 hours, but can be taken anytime over a week period because Deb is flexible and family friendly; and finally the poor contractor who gets none, because he’s really not a member of the fed club.

Then we talked about my attempt to find out on Reddit why our dog’s penis is so small. “It’s average!” Says the dog. I was branded a dog pervert on Reddit for even asking, but eventually found out it was because he became gender neutral very young. Confirmed without a doubt when the dog expert asked whether he raises his leg to pee - no of course he does not, he does it in a long stretched out position!

Our cocktail-less party was very low brow, but we had a great time. So glad my daughter has found a nice and funny guy and hope he’s a keeper.

DH and I have been pushing at 110% for a few months now. I slept in this morning. When I got up, DH said we had a crisis - no cream for the coffee. So as a substitute, he made us rum and Sanpellegrino drinks. My CAD drafting work today will flow more smoothly now.

The first step is admitting you have a problem. I admire your willingness to admit no cream for coffee is a problem. One day and counting abstaining from coffee, big step!!

My husband wanted to make it clear we won’t be abstaining from anything, ha!

I think drafting is the problem.

Ha, you could be right. Especially when I’m drafting a project trying to explain to idiots how to do their job.

Oh! I like this topic!

I taught my D how to make a classic margarita last night… Patron, Cointreau, fresh squeezed lime juice (plus simple syrup in hers).

Her response was hilarious… you mean you don’t need a premade mix???

Mine back… considering the cheap tequila you most likely drink at school just stick with the premade.

Tonight I’m going to an 80s cover band with a group of 20+ (including my D). For the pregame I’m trying to think of what we thought were “cool” drinks in the 80s… Tom Collins? Mai Thai? Sex on the Beach? If only those Bartles & James wine coolers were still around. Hahaha I grew up near the beach so that may show in my perception of “cool” drinks.

I had a White Russian for old time’s sake at my 25th college reunion and could not believe how disgustingly sweet it was. In college I drank daiquiri’s and screwdrivers mostly and those White Russians. My uncle actually taught me to drink liquor (“you can’t go to college without a drink you can drink”) - it was Vermouth with a twist. I love a classic margharita. I don’t use vermouth for anything but cooking these days. These days I like cocktails with ginger, yuzu, elderberries, bitters, grapefruit juice and if I’m at a fancy restaurant I’m always willing to try weird cocktails - those are the ingredients that tend to catch my eye, but I’m open to trying almost anything.

I did so much business schmoozing (drinking) in the 80’s with our Ford Motor Company account execs, it’s a wonder I remember much of the decade, but my hands-down favorite was a drink invented in Detroit called a Hummer. My favorite version had Chambord (instead of Kahlua) so it tasted like a raspberry shake:

1 oz Chambord
1 oz rum
Couple of ice cubes
2 scoops vanilla ice cream*

Blend Chambord, rum, cubes, and ice cream in blender on low-med for one minute. Garnish with fresh raspberries and mint sprig.

(*I’ve been known to substitute chocolate.)

I miss those ice-cream cocktails.

Ice cream cocktails are still around, I had one - a “grasshopper” (with creme de menthe) the last time we were in Illinois. This was at a “supper club” restaurant in my hometown. I first had one of these drinks at that same place 50 years ago (yes, I am only 65, so yes there is a back story as to why I was drinking that at age 15). Delicious!

Hit three (!!) woman-owned winery tasting rooms today. :sunglasses: best cheese plates and cleanest restrooms! :+1::+1: Go ladies! And the wine was awesome.

Have zero idea what the cat mélange is doing…. Hope the mixed tribe is just sorting out their cat business… or I will need more wine later tonight. :wine_glass: Might as well pop open a bottle now.
