SIR - Credit Card processing fee

Hi,

While submitting SIR, I was asked to pay $6+ credit card processing fee. I am wondering if the processing exists for all Online payments thru credit cards or is there a way to avoid them?

Many schools will charge a credit card processing fee. I was using a credit card to pay my son’s tuition fees for a Cal State and they also charge a credit card processing fee since they use a third party. Switched to e-check with no fees.
