SIR question

So I SIR'ed to UCSC a while back and now I want to cancel it because I got into UC Davis from the wait-list. I'm not sure how to do that. Also do I need to cancel UCSC's SIR before I SIR to UC Davis?

Thanks

Sorry to hear you won’t be joining us next year. :(

Be VERY sure to cancel your SIR to UCSC. A friend of mine got into UCSC off the waitlist after SIRing to UCM, and UCM bugged him for months for money because they still thought he was going there.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing! How do you actually cancel your SIR to UCSC?

I was on the UCSC website and I couldn’t find any sort of cancellation for my SIR.

Well if you SIR to UC Davis then wouldn’t UCSC’s SIR be cancelled since you can’t SIR to 2 UCs? Hmmm well hopefully they will give you your answers soon by email or just call. That’s weird, they don’t have a cancellation option o.o I am still waiting for the UC Davis Waitlist >.< ughh.

Hopefully you guys will find out how to cancel the SIR, if you find out tell us how you did it to help us future possible acceptances XD

^UC SIR are in no way connected to one another. You can SIR to more than one UC…now how that works out in the end I’m not sure but my UCSC SIR did not get canceled when i submitted my UCD SIR.
To cancel my UCSC SIR I called admission?, well I called the registrar and they redirected me so I forgot what it was, and they gave an email address and said send an email and give a small statement about cancellation.
If anyone is cancelling SIR at any college make sure to thank them for giving you a spot.
Give it around one day for them to reply to your email.

edit: got a reply saying that it will be withdrawn in one or two days and that the housing deposit will be refunded in accordance with housing policy.

^ok thank you! If i do actually get into Davis, i will just call UCSC to get the email. I will definitely thank them, they’re the only UC school that accepted me lol XD

Congrats on getting in! Davis will be a blast i’m sure. :]

Awesome, I am in the same boat as you guys. I was kind of freaking out because UCD has a link on their sidebar to cancel SIR but I couldn’t find a similar link for UCSC.

Was the email address a registrar email address, an admissions email address or just a normal UCSC email address?

Actually, you’re not supposed to SIR to more than one college. You risk having admission rescinded at both because of it.

It’s a practice that’s been discussed heavily in the parents forum on CC. Some people use it as a way to “double dip,” in a sense. They aren’t sure of their choice so they register to both to give themselves more time to decide. I have no personal experience with this, but there were reports in those threads that multiple SIRs did result in unfavorable actions.

I caution submitting an SIR to another UC without first canceling one you’ve already submitted or, at the very least, canceling as soon as possible. Now, in the case of a waitlist option, there are definitely a different set of rules (especially since they encourage you to accept an admission offer from another UC even if you accepted the waitlist option as well), but I would still exercise caution and call when in doubt as you did :)

Yeah, I also got the email about how they will withdraw my SIR in the next couple of days. So as long as you email or call the admissions office, they should be able to cancel your SIR and of course always remember to say thank you because they did accept you. :)

Best of luck to all of you guys who are still waiting!
