SIR question?

Hello, I have been admitted, and HAD planned on going to ucr. After looking at couple of things, such as my low gpa at my cc, I'm am thinking about staying back another semester and repeating the course and raising my gpa up to the UCI standards (which is where I really wanted to go, but got rejected). Now, what I regret doing is submitting my SIR to ucr...what do I do now? Do I have a choice of staying back another semester, or am I going to have to go to UCR? Oh, and I applied as a pysch major (I am doing premed though). Thank you to all who take the time to read, and reply.

If you plan on staying another year at CC, then send an e-mail to UCR and they will take out the SIR, you just won’t get your money back…but that should be the least of your worries.

Good luck with everything! [:

really? Is that all I have to do? damn I don’t know what to do because If I stay back another semester, I would have to re-apply again in the summer FOR the winter quarter at UCI (which I don’t know if have TAG for)…Do you know anything about winter admissiosn at UCI, as a psych major? Thanks again.

I’m not quite sure if UCI would allow that without TAG, they do with TAG. Especially an impacted major such as Psychology…you would have to contact admissions, talk to a counselor or just look it up.

You’re welcome!

Just make sure you can retake the courses. My CC won’t allow people to retake a course where they earned a C or better.

okay. I will talk to the counselor and see what she says. after hearing a lot of nice things about riverside, i’ve become very indecisive about going there lol. however, this year ucr did admit more students than they ever have in the history.

Bmop, yeah its the same policy at my cc, but I got a D in bio that I need retake. its a 5 unit course that really hurted my gpa. Hopefully UCI will tag me for the winter quarter.

you just have to notify UCR about taking back your SIR you wont get your money back. But you can decide to go to UCR and get better grades and try to transfer next year since if your transferring from a CC to a UC your GPA does not transfer over.

yeah I know, but transferring as a senior, wouldn’t that be kind of impossible? and I still have to finish couple of my prereq’s that I can get done by cc and wait another semester like you said ucrucla. From what I’ve read so far, it sounds as if it is kind of hard to get admission in winter quarter, so i don’t know im tripping

i donno about how transferring in as a 4th year might be since i’m guessing most transfers are 3rd years. not sure if they take into account that your a 4th year. i dont know how it is to get admitted for winter quarter since i didnt know you could.

but i’m sure its not impossible to transfer as a 4th year.
maybe people think its impossible to transfer from a UC to UC but its not.

but keep in mind that CC transfer get priority over anyone else.

Is it possible to submit a SIR to one of the UCs and another university out-of-state if undecided? Are there any consequences??

ucrucla, yeah some schools allow winter admissions (in my case uci does). I think ima go visit ucr campus and judge it myself and go from there.

Saba5678: I talked to a couple of friends, and they said that if you do submit your SIR to a school, but are not sure if you want to attend that school, all you need to do is send them an email. Also as someone already said earlier, you just don’t get the money back.

just a random two cents, if you regret not getting into your dream school, def. delay, retake the class and get your GPA up. especially if you’re young.

i almost did the same thing (stay at cc another year) to get into berkeley, but alas, i’m 32 and dare not delay my graduation any longer if i want to have kids this century.

:)

hey RS20, im in the same position youre in, and im having the hardest time of my life deciding if i should stay at my cc or just go to riverside or wait to get into davis like i want to. after talking to my counseler im thinking of going to riverside. and hopefully ill visit it soon. so if you go visit riverside before i do, let me know how it is please lol =)

zia89: I think I’ma go see riverside this thursday hopefully, then decide if I’m gonna end up going there. But from what i’ve heard, its a ****ty town…and thats im still debating if i should stay back or not. anyways, i let you know how it goes.

ilivefree: i hear you i still want to go to uci, and it wouldn’t kill me to stay back another semester… but i think i should check out riverside before I make my decision.

Ok!, SO i visited ucr yesterday and ever since I came back, I have been so depressed. the campus is big, and nice so I don’t think anyone would have a problem with that, but the town is like nothing but fields. it is surrounded by mountains and there are nothing but fields around the campus. I guess it is still in the process of getting built, but it is pretty empty. after talking to a couple friends taht go there, they claim that they usually travel out of town on almost every weekend because there is nothing to do in riverside. So Zia89, if you like living in the valley and don’t expect much to do out there, riverside is the place, otherwise, everything else is within 50 mintues.

wow, you didnt like it at all? i actually just got back from there i went on saturday because they had a discover day for transfer students and i was really impressed with what i saw. and ucr they have that university village like right there with a movie theater and stuff, and plus LA is like an hour away so thats cool too. going there has totally made up my mind about where i want to go. hopefully you make up your mind too =)

p.s. where are you from?? and oh have you checked out the Sterling Apartments off campus?? theyre amazinggg! lol

ziz89. I live in sterling right now.
that not awesome. the sample apartment they show you, is not how it actually is. the room is smaller than the one they show you. me and my roommates had so many complaints about that place. but hopefully you’ll have a better experience there.

Here’s an idea, defer you’re enrollment at UCR, reapply to UCI in the summer, for winter, if it doesn’t work out… enroll at UCR

thats what im planning on doing if my appeal to uci doesn’t go through. i also spoke with a uci counselor and she said they are not sure if there will be a winter session this year.

im from bakersfield, U?? i went there on a wednesday and the uv was dead. i also checked out sterling and grandmarc and i thought they were oncampus no?
