It really makes me sad that I've already sent all my documents to UCSB and signed a housing lease (which can be cancelled)...and I just got accepted to UCSD off the waitlist and have changed my mind and want to go to UCSD instead. Is it difficult to send all fafsa papers, transcripts, etc? I feel like everything will be late and I won't be able to get housing or even financial aid. Thanks everyone.

For fafsa you shouldn’t have any difficulties. just add the school code in fafsa corrections and contact admissions asap . For housing, i dont think dorms have been assigned yet. transcripts deadlines are due later for wait list students?
If you want UCSD, you should go for it ~ glgl

Follow your dream.

I’m in the same shoe as you accoustic. Do you know who I am suppose to contact to withdraw my SIR?!

SIR’d to SB but I want to go to Irvine now

@lawlking go with what u want!~! contact ur admission office for sir

I withdrew from UCSB and SIRed UCSD after getting in off the waitlist. When you call them they will tell you to email admissions@sa.ucsb.edu in the subject like put cancellation of SIR and in your email write your PERM # and Full Name and state that you would like to cancel your SIR.

Also call housing and they will cancel your application. Don’t forget to call orientation too if you signed up for that.

The $100 SIR deposit is non-refundable so you will lose that. However everything else is refundable i think.

It’s really quite simple if you want to go to UCSD then go for it… $100 is not a big deal for such a big decision in your life.

@ddark12 hi5 ^_^

Thank you Dark!

Aw thanks for the advice guys. @Dark: the thing is…I already signed my campus apartment lease at UCSB and I’ll be paying an extra 250 to cancel that along with the 100…I just don’t know if it’s worth it or if I’ll be taking extra courses at UCSD…I just don’t know. There is someone that I’m in love with that goes to UCSD so maybe that’s why I want to go?

I’m just going to make my life easier and stick with UCSB.

@Lawlking: AWESOME! Did you every apply for the on-campus apartments at UCSB?

A couple hundred dollars won’t matter in the long run. I don’t think it will even matter short term, to be honest. Just make sure you have SIR’d correctly and everything is in order with UCSD before you cancel anything at SB.

You’re right Shannon. Money shouldnt stop me from doing anything. GAHHH I have 48 hours to think about it lol :-)

48 hour countdown ~

I’m sort of biased in favor of UCSD even though I’m going to UCSB. I lived near UCSD as a child for several years and know several people who attend. Academically, I’d bet it is stronger than UCSB for most majors.

It is true that UCSD is more prestigious than UCSB…but I don’t care how prestigious a university really is. The only thing that matters to me is where I will be happy. Idk lol I didn’t think this would be a difficult situation

UCSD has really expensive housing. If I go to UCSB, I will most likely leave with less than a 5,000 dollar loan. UCSDs housing is like 10,000+ a year while UCSBs is like 6,000. I’ll only be getting 20,000 in fafsa. MEHHHH so many factors.

I totally feel you. I went back and forth between SB and Irvine for weeks, then Irvine and SD since I got in off the waitlist. IMO the timing of decisions being released has to do a lot with it. If I had recieved my acceptances all at once I don’t think it would have been as hard to choose.

But with them being so spread out (for me, at least) I got attached to where I got accepted and mentally de-attached myself from places that had not even rejected me yet; I guess it was some sort of defense mechanism. You get very attached to the school you think you’re going to. You fill out and submit forms, and actually envision yourself going there and what it will be like. Then you get accepted to somewhere else and have to do the process all over again.

Like you, I’m not a fan of it being this late into summer and having to start all over again with forms for a new school. It makes me kind of anxious to not have everything in order at UCSD while almost everything at UCI is in order for me. But I’m almost certain that I’m choosing UCSD now anyway, and I hope you do too =P

Good luck with your decision! Idk about you but going back and forth between schools and weighing out so many different factors has me mentally exhausted at this point haha

Thanks @randroid! Seriously it’s killing me! I would die to go to UCSD but there are a couple things holding me back. Not only will I lose a couple 500 canceling everything such as housing contracts, SIR, and other things, the housing at UCSD is expensive as *****! If I go to UCSB, I will leave pretty much loan free but if I attend UCSD, I definitely won’t. Idk. Money shouldn’t hold me back but it definitely makes making a decision easier lol :-)

Im glad you chose UCSD!!! You’ll love it there. I just wish they accepted me maybe two months earlier lol

I’m gonna reject the offer so I can be at peace
thanks for the advice!

I still don’t think it’s too much money in the long run. If it were the difference between CSU tuition living at home vs NYU then yes, if you’re uncomfortable with debt than I would advise agains NYU. But the costs here are pretty similar.

At UCSB, ill be paying 570 a month for apartment housing. At UCSD it’s like 10,000 for 9 months…including meal plan which I don’t want. At UCSD it’s about 1,000+ a month to live at the village lol

that’s with a roommate right acoustic?

@SanFranciscoKid: Yes! With a roommate of course
If you get a triple, I heard it’s about 9,000 something. Still a bit over my budget.
