Hello--my sister has her heart set on NYU. True, she is just an incoming freshman to my school, but she loves the school and NYC

The thing is, she isn't taking any honors classes for her freshman year in high school. I know that admission to NYU is pretty selective and I was just wondering if not taking honors classes next year (9th grade) will ruin her chances.

Also, I think she will apply to CAS or Tisch since that is where her interests are.

Thanks so much!

I'm not an adcom member, but here's my opinion. It's not a good thing to skip out on Honors classes. I don't think it'll "ruin" her chances, but it's definitely not going to make her a better candidate for admission. I would strongly advise her to rethink her schedule.

Btw, why is she not taking any Honors classes? Is she an academic lightweight? Not interested in challenges? Doesn't fit into her schedule? What exactly is going on?

well you must be recommended by your teachers for freshman honors classes. For math, you need at 93--she had an 85 and for science you need at 85--she had a 94...in retrospect, I don't know why she wasn't recommended, but I should talk to her about it. I would hate to see her give up her dream for an easy schedule.

Thanks for the reply...
