Sitting in on classes?

If we (high school students, including admitted seniors) visit the campus on our own--not during one of the Princeton Previews--can we sit in on classes? I couldn't find anything on the website; maybe I didn't look in the right places.

Officially, I’m pretty sure they only let you attend courses during the admitted students weekend. However, I’m sure you could sneak into a lecture hall and no one would notice. Go to this site ([Course Offerings « Office of the Registrar](Course Offerings | Office of the Registrar)) and select “09-10 Spr” and then you can choose a class you’d like to sit in on. I’d make sure the enrollment in the class is large-ish, and you’d have to find your own way to the lecture hall, but it shouldn’t be too hard.

I would personally suggest that you attend one of the Princeton Preview weekends, if possible, because they generally pair you with someone in your prospective major, and your host will be much more helpful in helping you to select classes to attend. You also might be able to sit in on smaller classes or precepts.

NB: if you’re visiting on a Friday, keep in mind that most humanities and social science lectures have M-W or T-Th meeting times, and there will be very few opportunities to see a lecture, even in the sciences, math and engineering, which do meet on M-W-F but have fewer big lectures.

I don’t think they care if you sit in on any class with like more than 10 people in it or so. If its small just go up and ask the prof beforehand, and they will almost always say yes.

Indeed, most professors will be more than happy to let you sit in on a class. It’s still courteous to ask, but I don’t think you’ll have any issues with that.

Thanks for your advice! (: If I can’t attend Princeton Preview (I hope I can), I’ll probably visit on a Monday and ask a professor if I can sit in.
