Sitting the SATs Twice?

I'm an International student (well... British, which really isn't all that International) and I'm looking to take my SATs at the end of the year.

One person I've spoken to advised me to take the SAT I tests twice to ensure I get the best possible score, taking the test first in October and then again in December.

Firstly, is this allowed (I've gotten some really.... um... 'interesting' advice from various sources back here in the UK!) and secondly, if I do take them twice am I allowed to mix and match my scores? So if I got (for example) CR 700, W 700 & M 600 in October but CR660 W660 M 700 in December, could I combine the best scores for each individual test to give me the best overall score? Or, would I have to take the combined results from each sitting?

I hope that made sense. It does to me, but then again that isn't saying a lot...

Many/most students take the SAT multiple times, and many schools will superscore it (take the best score in each section). However, some schools will require that you send ALL SATs you’ve taken.
