[Sixth College Res Halls Virtual Tour - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)
here’s a good video on what the Res halls look like. And I believe if you guys come on Admit day, they take you through some of the dorms so you can see up close. Each room, no matter single, double or triple, you get a wardrobe and a desk. In my opinion, a single looks like too much space, a double is a good amount of space while a triple is an little less than what you’d like, but livable.
I’m not sure about the party life as that’s not really my thing, but I imagine there is plenty around. At the very least, there’s a Non-sexist dance (hosted by LGBT clubs) every quarter which are really awesome.
And the other colleges aren’t really that much far away from sixth. It takes a max of 15 minutes to walk across campus, and if you really don’t feel like doing that, there’s a shuttle that runs around campus almost constantly.
I wouldn’t worry about being in different colleges. Sixth was my third choice, but I’m loving it and glad I’m here.

Got into sixth too!
But for an undeclared major. I didn’t even put undeclared down.
I just put bio ._.
should I be worried?

What will I miss if I am not going to the triton day

Woah why does it seem like a majority of the CC kids are getting into sixth college O_o?
And have the tour people at SD been telling you guys it’s like Harry Potter theme? I guess there are like different “houses” but I personally think that comparison is rather silly lol.
Which reminds me of the difference in acceptance letters this year: [Wall Photos | Facebook](Redirecting...)

From what I have seen personally, the law here hits pretty hard. The RA and cops are really strict about drinking. That is probably because of the laws in la jolla and not UCSD specifically. I am not sure about winter quarter, but the rush parties during the fall got rushed by the police pretty quickly. Also, I am not sure about Sixth college since I live in the revelle dorms (still in sixth college tho), but some RA seems to be really comitted to the no alcohol policy.

However, that is not to say you can’t drink (of course you can have fun partying without drinking… but seems like most people I talk to simply care about the fact if you can drink or not). Most people I know that are in frats drink almost regularly and I heard the parties at ihouse are almost entirely unsupervised.

Personally speaking, I will say that sixth dorms are pretty far from everything else too. Well I mean sixth college is technically not that far if you just look at the map, but it seems far from everything you’ll want to be. It is pretty far from the gym and most first year lecture halls (from my experience. but at least if you need to see your CAT TA it is really close). Their own market and and dining hall seems like a long journey too. However, I personally don’t find the food at foodwrox that great so it is probably better to eat at a different dining hall while you are on other parts of the campus.

Fun fact: the current Sixth college res hall are the old ERC dorms. It is commonly known as camp snoopy (well because it looks like a summer camp). The dorms look relatively coozy and have a huge grassfield outside looks pretty nice. The basketball court is pretty close too (well there’s basketball courts almost everywhere).

About the GE requirement -
Sixth college GE is pretty random and spread out. In terms of the number of courses, I will say that their GE is pretty numerous. However, I find that a lot of my courses and AP satisfy them so it is not much of a problem. Compare to other colleges, the distinction will mainly be the art courses you will take which I believe is only two courses and the CAT series. Not much I can say about CAT since it really depends on the professor you get; some topics are really dull and some are pretty interesting. Additionally, there are no foreign language requirements!

@empressjoy

Question just popped into my head: When you used your APUSH to satisfy one GE class at Sixth, did you get 4 credits or 8 credits? It says “8” on the university side [far left] but on the far right for Sixth, its for one GE, and most GE classes are 4 credits.

Here is the chart I’m referencing for everyone’s convenience

http://www.ucsd.edu/catalog/pdf/APC-chart-11-12.pdf

It basically just a chart for how much AP credit one would receive based on the college.

It’s eight units.
Don’t think of it as substituting; it is simply an exemption.

can anyone tell me about the social life at sd? how are the parties? and also how is the greek system

I’m a current sophomore in sixth college with some insights into the whole party situation.
I live in the reshalls last year and found that it was quite easy to “party” on campus if you make the right friends.

I say “party” because anything on campus is really just a kickback with 30 people tops. The best parties occur off campus and 95% of the time are hosted at either a frat house or an athlete house.

The RAs and RSOs in 6th seemed more lax than other college, but you still have to be somewhat discrete about drinking/partying in the reshalls. My roomate and I were caught once last year, but I wasn’t written up, the RSO just poured out the alcohol.
The apartments in 6th are great for partying though. One of my friends last year would hold weekly wednesday parties at his apartment and I never saw a single RA/RSO…and we were loud.

@nicolekohan hey so I was a SigEp at UCSD (Sigma Phi Epsilon) despite what people might tell you the greek system at UCSD isn’t as bad as you might think. Yes, there is no frat row, but we make it work. I’m going to assume your female since your user name is nicole lol, but there are I believe 9 panhellenic sororities on campus, and a number of Asian, and Latina sororities as well. Rush week for panhellenics is the first week of the fall quarter. They rush once a year and only once a year, where as the multicultural frats (the Asian and Latina interest ones) will rush twice a year usually fall and winter. For panhellenic rush you have to sign up during welcome week they have tons of booths and things to help you out. Parties at a frat house or sports team house are probably majority of the parties UCSD really has to offer. Just go check it out at make the decision for yourself.

Hello, 2nd year at Sixth here ^^

Did UCSD tell you anything about the on-campus housing application?

Just as a head’s up, even if you don’t end up coming here to UCSD, I would HIGHLY suggest submitting the housing application ASAP. It doesn’t have anything to do with the SIR but if you DO end up coming here in the fall, you’ll be at the top of the list for housing and will most likely get your choice of housing (double or triple/apt or dorm).

[UC San Diego Housing Frequently Asked Questions](http://housing.ucsd.edu/faq.asp) [information from last year but I’m guessing it’s the same for this year?]
“When should I apply for Housing?
You should apply for Housing online as soon as you receive your admit letter, usually mid- to late-March. There is no fee to apply and no penalty for declining to sign the housing contract, so we highly recommend you apply even before you decide to attend UC San Diego or submit your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR).The deadline to apply for housing is May 1, 2011.”

Just as a disclaimer, I looked at these pictures before my freshman year and it was quite different when I actually stepped into the dorms. But since I know how much I wanted to see even a sneak peek of where I was going to live my first year, here are some pictures for all of you :] Enjoy!

Haha, yeah it’s a little weird. So what my score gave me was 8 units towards my total units completed in terms of overall classes. But towards completing my GE’s, it counted as a 4 unit course meaning i would have to complete another course to satisfy that portion of GEs.
If that makes sense? Like DistressedStudent said, it counts as 8 credits, but exempts me from 4 credits towards my GE completion.

Sixth college looks like a mountain boyscout camp site but you should be thankful its not revelle… revelle GE will kill you…

oh noes- my S was admitted to camp Snoopy, after randomly picking colleges during the application. not sure how to feel about this :-(

Don’t worry, Sixth is not really as bad as so many people make it out to be…

Aw yeah. Got into sixth college and i’m THRILLED! :DDD

yea, the dorms look funny on the outside, but i guess you can’t judge a book by it’s cover. sounds like a nice close-knit group which would lend itself to a positive college experience.

there is nothing wrong with the sixth college dorms. i feel like the social experience here would be much better than the other colleges because its more of a tight-knit environment
