size of classes

Hi,

I applied as a transfer hoping to get in for the fall. I have a friend who used to be in SB, she said the classes are huge! some are 100+, even freshmen classes!

Please enlighten me because where I am now, the classes are around 20 per class.

Thanks.

it depends on what class you're taking. Bio/Chem/Psych will have 200-500ppl....small ones like Writing or other seminars have as little as 30. But yeah the range is about 200.

True, but slightly misleading. Ultimately, eva's right; it depends on what classes you're taking. If you need to take the bio or chem sequences for your major or for pre-med or whatever, the lecture is big, but it's paired with a smaller recitation. If you don't need to take Bio, then don't. Take a science with a smaller class. There are lots of options.

"Officially," the average class size is 25, but that takes a lot of factors into account. Don't necessarily be scared off by lectures; plenty of students have had a lot of success in the lecture format. The more active you are, the more visible you are, the better you'll do. Don't be afraid of your professors! :)

thank you so much! mu friend scared me by that, but most of the top schools in the country hav classes with hundreds of students too, so i gues it'll work for me.
