How important exactly are the subject tests? for scholarships? Obviously they are not as important as SAT I and GPA, but how do they compare to EC's, awards, essay? Most schools don't require them, and some don't seem very interested in them at all. Are they worth sweating about? Will a good SAT I score make up for not-as-good subject test scores?

bump... pleaz

good question, been wondering this myself...anybody?

maybe not for less competitive schools, but once you get into the top tier schools, relatively poor SATII's scores can distance you from the competition. Since other applicants will also have good SATI scores, doing well on that wont really make up for anything

i've heard that at the top schools good SAT II scores won't get you in (obviously), but weak SAT II scores could be enough to keep you out.

ok so that begs the question, what exactly is considered 'weak', i got a 720 in USH, and I've been thinking about a retake, but not sure if it carries enough weight at elite schools to merit a retake... just wondering any advice is appreciated
