SJSU Class of 2027 Official Thread

Looks like some decisions were released today. D got admitted but she had applied for Comp Eng but status shows Program: UGD - Undergraduate Degree…does this mean she got in as Undeclared???

The fall 2023 thresholds for frosh admissions are now at Freshmen Impaction Results | Admissions .

To calculate your admission index for SJSU:

  1. Recalculate your high school GPA as the weighted-capped version from this calculation: GPA Calculator for the University of California – RogerHub . However, for CSU including SJSU (but not UC), count each semester college course as two (semester) courses with two (semester) grades.
  2. Multiply the GPA by 800 to get the basic admission index.
  3. Add any additional points as listed at Impaction | Admissions .

If she did not meet this years Impaction Index threshold for Computer Engineering then she could be accepted as Undeclared. Did she list an alternate major?

She listed another impacted (Psych) as alt, so not likely they looked at it. For Comp Eng, its a bit opaque how they calculate math gpa. Per our calculation she made the threshold by a hair, but when they rank within those who make the threshold, she perhaps did not fare well, so admitted as Undeclared?

(My understanding is that if they dont make threshold, it is Withdrawn Unaccomodated status)

We knew this outcome was a possibility but she is disappointed! (We live in SJ)

Since she is a local SJ applicant it is possible that SJSU accepted her as Undeclared since she gets priority. I know that CSU Long Beach will offer local applicants Undeclared if they do not get into their preferred major. You can call admissions to confirm.

D got admitted for Psych

D admitted to design studies. Expected since she was well above the impaction index. Not sure if she will go since it is close to home.

Any idea how the combine the standard calc and the math calc for STEM applicants? Do they add the two together??? The site says they “take into consideration” the applicant’s math GPA but it’s not clear exactly how.

Both my son’s got admitted today as well. The letter says, Congratulations, you have been admitted to the major you chose on your application. The Status shows Program: UGD - Undergraduate Degree. They both applied to Computer Science. We are expecting the program will get updated soon.

D23 accepted into Enviro Studies major.

For us, it’s the exact opposite - SJSU is lower on D23’s list because it would be a pretty rough commute from where we live (in the East Bay). I mean, there’s the Berryessa Bart which has some bus connections, but it’s probably a good 2 hours each way, give or take. That’s a lot.

D23 admitted civil engineering 4.17 gpa, not local, in state. Letter states admissions packet will be mailed out late Feb.

My son also has a message saying “you have been admitted to the major you selected on your application to San José State University”. Where on the portal is the “Status” that some are mentioning?

@icecreamnut If you sign onto OneSJSU > Student Center. At the bottom of the Student Center pg under Admission section, you will see a link for View Application Status.

CS seems a little lower at 4.3 GPA.

Son Admitted
Electrical Engineering
CSU GPA 4.13
In-state, non local

No email received but Son’s admission status on portal shows: “Conditional” Admit-Self Report
does that mean he’s accepted?

My Son got in for Computer Science. Got email last night and checked his portal.

Yes, it means he is accepted. See Undergraduate Application Status | Admissions

You have been conditionally admitted (Freshman) based on the self-reported information that you provided in your application. Conditional admission is subject to final verification of final transcripts of the following:

  • Minimum impaction threshold required for your major
  • College Preparatory subjects

You must also complete all of the Terms and Conditions of your admission by meeting the intent to enroll deadline, submitting documents and meeting final admission and impaction requirements.
