hi I’m gonna be transfering the next year to a 4 year university for accounting major. I know SFSU, SJSU and cal poly slo only offer business administration with concentrations in accounting which I think is enough to become an account. I am from the Bay Area and most the jobs for accountants are in San Francisco and Silicon Valley. If I decide to go to university of Nevada Reno is because they after the complete major and is ranked one of the best national universities in the country according to U.S. News. The question is which of these 4 universities has the best reputation for accounting? What college have more recruiters for accounting students ?
I am currently a student at SJSU. Firstly, a business administration degree with a concentration in accounting is sufficient to become an accountant. Secondly, I highly recommend attending SJSU for accounting. SJSU is located in downtown San Jose along with EY, PwC, Deloitte, BPM, Grant Thronton, McGladrey, Frank Rimerman, Sensiba San Filippo, and KPMG right in Santa Clara. All of these firms recruit directly from SJSU. I am on a five year senior track to graduate with 150 units.
I applied to all of the firms mentioned above and I got offers from multiple firms and accepted an offer with one of the big 4 firms. All of my friends in Beta Alpha Psi got offers from firms. EY and PwC recruit alot of people every Fall semester from SJSU. Its crazy. If you choose SJSU, you have to join Beta Alpha Psi. All of these firms sponsor Beta Alpha Psi at SJSU and have tons of events throughout the semester to network with recruiters and the firm’s professionals.
Nothing against UNR, but I’ve never seen it listed as a top accounting school (in 25+ years of looking at such things). Perhaps it’s highly ranked on some regional list?
I’d choose Cal Poly SLO or SJSU. Cal Poly grads get recruited for both So Cal & No Cal jobs, so pehaps it gets the edge if you want to work in LA vs. San Jose.
