hey guys
i have just been admitted to these universities for computer science
which of these do you think is better
pls help asap
Can you calculate
(tuition, fees, room & board) - (scholarships and grants)
and give us the results for each?
How much can your parents afford, out of pocket (without any loan)?
I would personally think Rutgers is better but it all depends on the financial offer, costs, and where you are in state at.
sjsu is 34000 dollars a year and rutgers nb is 42000 a year
Rutgers campus is very very spread out. I’m not sure about SJSU, but I know if it is at all possible, you should visit to see what it is like to go there.
To be honest, a quick look at the SJSU campus map shows it is actually a campus, and Rutgers is like many campuses with busing required between classes for many majors and from dorms to classes.
Do a virtual tour for each, and check out each campus map. You’ll be glad you did.
Can your parents pay that much without loans?
Where else have you applied?
Considering the amounts and opportunities, I’d say SJSU wins out.
However SJSU for CS is super impacted and thus difficult to get into - to have such stats,
you must have gotten into other universities, right?
yes my parents can pay that amount
i m waiting for a call from uci and uc davis
i have been accepted in sdsu and sfsu
waiting for nyu poly and penn state
Do you prefer SJSU to SDSU?
Do let us know your other choices :), they all sound good.
i got into sdsu and sfsu also
SJSU does have a well defined campus, with minimal spillover into surrounding city blocks:

Of course, many resident students do live nearby off campus, and nearly half are commuters from the metro area. Frosh are required to live in the dorms, unless they live within 30 miles, are age 21, active military or veteran, married, or FAFSA-independent:

guys but where do you think i should go sjsu sdsu or rutgers nb ( money is not a problem at all)
SDSU or SJSU, not rutgers, but whether SDSU or SJSU will depend on your personal preferences.
If you go to SJSU, 70% of your coursework will be with much less prepared and driven students, but 30% will be with very motivated, very well prepared CS students.
If you go to SDSU, the overall level will be better but you’ll have to stand out more for CS.
have you visited either one?
Been admitted to any other university?
@jasraj1235: You stated in another thread you are still waiting for UCI and UCD. Why are trying to decide now? Wait till all the acceptances are in and then make your decison. You have until May 1 to decide.
yea but the thing i have my board exams from 9th feb till 1st april so i won’t have much time to think till then
by the way i have not visited any of the universities
@jasraj1235. If you are planning to study CS and are from India. Looking at the price differentials and the schools to choose from and the best bang for your dollars…I would strongly recommend SJSU…since it is located in the heart of Silicon Valley with close ties to many of the companies that hire CS grads…and you will feel more at “home” with a large Indian community that makes up the Silicon Valley and the Bay Area…
Outside of Stanford which dominates the tech world…SJSU grads are well represented in many of the companies which like to hire from local schools…
I’m afraid schools like Rutgers are not in any serious conversations or represented here in Silicon Valley…
Look at the following chart:

thank you for the help @gravitas2
OP, l think @gravitas2 nailed it. I would also add that New Brunswick NJ can be a pretty dreary place to be from November through March. You should factor in life style especially as an international student.
hey guys
i got into uci and uc davis also for computer science
so which should i go for
SJSU, UCI or UCD. I wouldn’t go to Rutgers. The campus is very spread out and New Brunswick is old and run down. Most people at Rutgers are from NJ or nearby PA, so they either commute or go home on weekends, the campus is pretty dead on weekends. SJSU has a beautiful campus, as does UCI.
