Charles Murray’s essay on his experience at Middlebury this past Thursday night:
http://www.aei.org/publication/reflections-on-the-revolution-in-middlebury/
Although it’s peripheral to all the goings-on, I found it noteworthy that he has a daughter who graduated from Middlebury ten years ago. . . Anyway, I think it’s a worthwhile read in terms of the events before, during, and after his talk, as well as his take on what might or should happen next.
This and the other thread should just be merged.
A response from the Middlebury administration is awaited. Will the administration take a short-term approach, with appeasement and hollow words about the importance of free speech? Or will the administration stand on principle and refuse to tolerate intimidation and violence? This liberal Midd parent, and the country, is watching.
I am going to Middlebury next year and I am a little worried about how liberal the campus is… I am a leaning conservative. Are there other conservatives also on campus?
@jollybull12, there were plenty when I went there! Don’t worry, it is a friendly and open campus for all students.
@jollybull12 Middlebury is one of the most politically balanced schools in the NESCAC. You won’t have to worry. Remember, this incident involved a small minority of students and some off campus individuals.
Thanks guys! So, since I am a recruited athlete, will a lot of athletes have both conservative and liberal views? I am scare that I will make a political joke to somebody and they will not take it with good humor
I don’t think you can generalize. Until you know people, it’s always best to avoid comments on politics and religion, in any polite company!
@CrewDad – Do you mean that it’s best to avoid comments on sex or that it’s best to avoid sex (or both)?
