Skating around campus?

Would it be a good idea to bring a skateboard along? Im pretty sure im gonna bring it cuz i will miss it anyways, but would it be a viable method of transportation inside the campus?

theres a good number of skaters. but be advised that the campus is hilly with a lot of stairs and slopes. you better be proficient at slowing/braking/stopping before you attempt to skate down a hill or you're gonna mow down like 50 people.

yeah..i've seen multiple people fall off their skateboards/scooters while going down the hill & trying to avoid people..

ouch :/

i almost get hit by a skater/biker/unicyclist/ninja every time i'm on campus.

it's seriously annoying.

I like how you have ninja there.

i havent seen ninja guy in a while.

but there really is a ninja. not lying. and he does get in your way when you try to walk.

and vte- he's around. i saw him walking in a non-ninja capacity on strathmore the other day and it freaked me out because he was so out of his element trying to act like a normal human. he looked especially short next to the average-height chick he was with.

apparently my friend is friends with him though so i have like 3 degrees of ninja separation. so exciting.

LOL.

yeah i saw him reading a book once. i was so excited

i want to learn how to skate from point A to point B faster.

but if it isnt for beginners like me, then i shouldnt bring a skateboard

practice over the summer?

just dont skate down the hills

cmon the ucla campus is not that huge. even if you have a class in humanities, you cant skateboard up bruinwalk, so you save may be five minutes.

yeah i haven't seen ninja anywhere and it looks like boombox boy has vanished.

omg i was walking to chem lecture one day a couple weeks ago, and the boombox boy was coming out of a lecture in one of the CS lecture halls. he was walking and taking his boombox out of his backpack, and nodding is head with a huge grin as if he was saying "awwwww yeahhhhhhh!!!" :D

i think that's the first time i ever saw him.

i think i saw boombox guy once when i was heading out of MS... i mean, i haven't seen anyone else carry around a boombox, so it must be him right?

as for skating- erm- well a skateboard doesn't take much space. practice over the summer, bring one with you, then if you get here when there's not tons of people, try it out. otherwise, sit back and watch the pros. and amateurs who almost mow you down.

also, it's really cool to see the variety of wheels people use. i've even seen a unicycle once. there's roller bladers, skateboarders, longboarders, mini boarders, skateboard-divided-in-two-ers, scooter people (electric and razor)... every day i see a new kind of transportation. oh and there's bikes too. and miniature folding bikes. and scooters with three wheels. it's really nutty!

Is it recommended for a first time boarder to bring a longboard to UCLA?

Hey liyana, just out of curiosity, what is this "skateboard-divided-in-twoer"? I can't really picture one in my mind.

google "snakeboard" or "waveboard"

well yah there's sort of two things i meant by that. one is a board that has a swivel thing in the middle. another is basically two mini platforms with wheels, aligned like a skateboard, one under each foot. it's kind of like skating sideways.
if you ever see that dude around campus your jaw will be like... drop...
