skating yo

Hey im going to cal in the fall and am looking to commute around campus using a longboard.

Im shopping right now and am wondering if i should stick to a mini 26" (zippier turning to dodge pedestrians) or is berkeley fine for cruising with a slightly longer board (33").

I dont know the area at all

Sup, I want to know the answers too. Im debating over whether to bring my skateboard along with me to berkeley or not.

Longboards are pretty uncommon. Unlike a campus like UCLA which is great for longboards, Berkeley's campus tends to be pretty hilly and a lot of the ground isn't paved well. The campus and surrounding streets tend to get really crowded so you need more manuverability. Generally I find walking to be preferable to skating because going from class to class usually shouldn't take you more than 5-10 minutes at most, plus you can walk with friends.

The campus is not really conducive for skating... pedestrian traffic is bad, lots of hills and uneven sidewalks and rough pavement and a lot of times the ground can be wet. There are plenty of longboards around campus.
There are some pretty cool skate spots on campus and right around campus too. There's not much time for it, but SF has some of the best spots in the bay area to skate.
But most people don't use their boards for transportation around campus.

its interesting cuz i always saw people doing that on campus. i always want to try cuz it looks pretty cool. but it is pretty scary since the campus is pretty hilly. are you really good? its a really nice way to go downhill.
