Posting on the off chance anyone has insight re: Chemistry classes - I think they are 115 and 125? 125 is required for D19/D23 desired major and she placed into 115. She did OK in high school chem (regular Chem, not honors or AP) but not without significant effort. Her motivation is very different now - she is excited about her desired major - but I am nervous for her to take a super-tough class 1st semester Freshman year. I imagine even the classes that are easier for her will be a step up from what she is used to in high school. She will speak to her advisor tonight about it - just thought I’d ask here if anyone has advice whether Chem115 should/can wait until Sophomore year.
115 is a preparatory chemistry course focussed on developing basic math skills to be successful in the one semester general chemistry course (125). 115 should not be too challenging if she did ok in high school chemistry. Whether to wait or not, what does D19/D23 want to do? If premed, start chemistry sooner rather than later. If she only needs 125 completion for potential major then maybe wait. 115 is only offered in the Fall same with 125 though the 125 equivalent (126) is offered in the spring for 115 students to complete general chemistry.
Thanks for your reply. She wants to major in Health and Human Physiology. She only needs 125. But, she spoke to her advisor Wednesday this week and she’s decided to take 115 fall semester. She thinks it will be fine, and if it isn’t she’d rather know as early as possible. I see that logic and, in any event, need to leave these decisions to her. Thanks again!
I’m an HHPS major, and a word of advice-- start early. I just had to drop the major because of misinformation by an advisor. I’m a senior in 125, and it’s not very difficult (and I almost failed chem in HS!). Tell her to plan her courses carefully.
