Skidmore Class of 2017 RD Thread

@summer2009 Thanks for the advice, I’ll probably just go to an admitted student day just in case. It’s still disconcerting though, would a French person be invited to this weekend too?

International Decisions should be e-mailed tonight I think. Its about time Skidmore. I am seriously freaking out! Skidmore’s one of my top choices. Even had an interview so I hope that counts for somthing.

Waitlisted! 3.7 UW gpa, 2140 SATs, 8 APs, multiple honors, AP scholar, NHS, campus visit/interview…ECs, job - great essay. happy to have other options, but a little surprised. congrats to all accepted!!!

@myrtoz: Wow! Doesn’t look like my chance of getting in is terribly high after reading that. Unless they’re attempting to protect their yield by denying extraordinary candidates, I doubt I have much of a chance. We shall see, I suppose. Perhaps something in my application jumps out at them – fingers crossed!

Looks like it is the Waitlist for my son and I am not that surprised as the competition was incredible this year. 6 APs. 710M, 620 CR, 610W. Excellent recommendations. Congratulations to Everyone who was accepted!!

Waitlisted! 3.5 unweighted/4.0 weighted 1390/2100 SATS, will end year with 13 APs, the rest of academic credits honors, vice president French club, National AP Scholar, some pretty solid but nothing to write home about service projects and internships.

Congratulations inaweoflacs!
Skidmore is a great school. You self identified as Hispanic on the Common App so they are inviting you to the event!
Skidmore may also be inviting International students to the event.
They may have current Internationals hosting as well. Get in touch and ask. This may be a more intimate event than the ones for ALL admits. You may not want to miss out on it.

In our family experience with US colleges it is not uncommon for affinity groups and internationals to have activities together year round. Where one of our children goes to school Hispanics (Latinos) with internationals from India, Spain, and Brazil put together a lot of most popular events on campus that everyone participates in.
In case you are new to the US, here is a link that might help you with the “Hispanic” tag.
[Who?s Hispanic? | Pew Hispanic Center](Who is Hispanic? | Pew Research Center)
It was coined by an office of US gov to encompass US citizens (and immigrants to US) who have origin in the Spanish speaking countries of Lat. Am, Caribbean, and includes Spain. It is not a designation by race or skin color; you can be a white, African, Asian or of an indigenous American nation and be Hispanic. (we) Hispanics can be of any race and skin tone.
Although there is a legal definition for the sake of government (to measure ways populations are served by health care, education, etc- see link) it is a personal choice of whether one self identifies as a Hispanic. Some of us do and some of us don’t and specify instead the nationality of our ancestors.

Congrats on Skidmore, great place.

My son, international applicant, got the admissions notification letter via e mail today.
However they haven’t informed us any financial aid package they intend to offer.
Did any of you who got accepted receive such information?

I read the letter again and it stated that the financial aid info was enclosed in the package they sent on the 22nd of March. I think everything is in the package, and they didn’t send the FA info via e mail.

@Vonama Congratulations! when exactly did your son received the email and which country are you from. Please post your son’s stats as well.

@dreighver
I only took 3, but we can only start taking them junior year at my school, and it’s hard for most kids to fit them into their schedule. 3 can be considered somewhat rigorous at my school. As for my ECs, they were fine. I had a total of 9 years (8th grade varsity too) varsity experience between two sports, captain in both, held a job, plenty of volunteer and community service work. I’m assuming my GPA brought me down though, since I was only in the top 30% in the class.

The package just arrived! I’ve been accepted… I’m very, very happy. Skidmore seems like it could be the perfect fit for me.

Congratulations to all others who have been admitted.

got my acceptance today!
but a friend of mine in my town didn’t get anything from skidmore today so mail can really come at any time.
congratulations to everyone!

international here, still waiting for the email.

Ugh, I’m at work and no one is home to check the mail lol I can’t stay focus because every second I’m waiting for my brother to text me if anything is there.

yeah me too! im still waiting for the email. they said we’d recieve it today. im soooooo scared!

Anyone know how many people they accept off the waitlist?

wh1chcollege,

I think we should be receiving them by tomorrow morning at most

Waitlisted! I’m surprised I wasn’t rejected because of the 8,300~ applicants they had. I’ll be declining my spot on the waitlist (I had 1330/1980 on my SAT), so good luck to everyone else.

Accepted with enough financial aid to attend!

3.69 GPA (unweighted, hardest schedule possible except for history classes, upward trend from B student freshman year to A student since late sophomore year)
2220 SAT (700 M, 720 CR, 800 W/10 E)
780 Math II, 780 Chem
33 ACT (35 E, 32 S, 32 R, 33 M), 8 essay
Unspectacular extracurriculars (JV cross country/track, class vice president, very few community service hours)

Good luck to the rest of you still awaiting your decisions!
