Skidmore College

What can you tell me about it? It looks like a fit for us, but there isnt much info here about it. Has anyone visited campus? Or have kids who attend? What is the reputation of the school?

There’s some information here:

[Skidmore College - College Confidential](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/skidmore-college/?pp=20&daysprune=-1)

Thank you for the link! I looked in the Skidmore section last night, but only one thread showed up, the one about the triples. Maybe my settings are off somehow?

There’s a setting at the bottom left of the Skidmore page. Prior ‘30 days’ is the default. I usually ask for ‘Year’ but there are times when it’s useful to peruse all posts from the ‘Beginning’ of the college thread.

Saratoga Springs is a lovely town, and this is a very nice school. More artsy than most of the other upstate privates in NY. Also enjoys an excellent reputation. It was once an all female school that has since gone co ed.

If you look down on the bottom of the page, under “Display Options”, check the “From The” pull-down menu to select a longer time frame. It defaults to “Last Month” but you can pick “Beginning”.

A very nice little Lac. My son did his practice tour there (we live 30 miles away, so.) Campus is pretty but it was mostly built at the same time so a bit too uniform for my tastes. The original campus was downtown and they stopped using that completely sometime after the mid-70’s when I applied. At one point on our tour someone asked about the use of TA’s and the guide didn’t know the answer but a professor overheard and interrupted to say that no TA’s taught any classes or lab sections (we were in the Science building at the time.)

The dorm room we saw was a double being used as a triple and from what I gathered this is common.

Saratoga is lovely, lots of nice small shops and excellent restaurants. Campus is close enough to walk to the downtown.

Visited there with my D who just graduated from Carleton College. She really liked it and applied but ultimately made a different choice. She recently mentioned how much she liked it better than a lot of the other schools on her list, and might have gone there if she had not been admitted to Carleton. Do you have specific questions about it?

Know lots of kids who go and graduated. It has gotten way better in terms of reputation and quality of students. Has little merit and lower financial aid packages which means it attracts a wealthier, full pay applicant. Also is just a few hours away from some very high income areas in the metro nyc area (manhattan, westchester and bergen counties) and draws from these communities. Noted for the fine arts and equestrian program.
Graduates I know have done well, some shockingly well considering their HS record. Makes me think that they are doing something right.
