Skidmore ED II Class of 2021!

@sca1999 I wasn’t admitted to Wesleyan ED 1 either. And i just got rejected from Skidmore ED 2. I feel terrible but I honestly can’t say Skidmore had everything I wanted in a school. Congrats to your son though!

@screenies. My son got rejected from Wesleyan ED1 also.
Where else have you applied RD?

No school is perfect. And there isn’t just one right school for each student. There were a lot of other schools that we liked as well. My son wasn’t as mature as he is now, when we started the whole process. If we were to begin it now, he might have picked totally different schools.

@sca1999 I applied to Union College, NYU, BU, and Rutgers. I was accepted into Rutgers. I wish I had applied to more schools.

@screenies A girl in my son’s class just got into BU ED2 yesterday.

I’m so sorry! Did you get this thru mail or email?

via mail delivery? or email?

@JamieM The acceptance packet came through snail mail.

Screenies, what do you mean “but I honestly can’t say Skidmore had everything I wanted in a school?”
Why would you have used the ED option to apply to a school that didn’t have what you were looking for?

@JaxBlueman although there are dozens of reasons why i found skidmore to be a great school for me, such as the smallness of the classes, resources and study abroad opportunities, the location and diverse group of kids, my gut feeling is that i wouldn’t be comfortable settling for a major that isn’t one of skidmore’s top. perhaps that’s just me being paranoid i wouldn’t receive an excellent education in my major of choice. of course, no school is perfect. however the pros surely outweigh the single con.

@sca1999 A big congratulations to your son! We are so proud of him. I hope to see him next fall at Skidmore. What’s his intended major anyway?

@munit123 Thanks! He’s interested in both science and music, possibly a double major. He put down physics as his top choice, but we will see. He’s always been fascinated with all types of science and it’s difficult for him to narrow it down to one discipline. He plays several instruments and loves to compose music too.

@sca1999 Sounds awesome! Good luck to him.

I got accepted and when I interviewed they seemed to care I didn’t need financial aid. Maybe that was a factor?

Yeah, it’s one of the many factors. They probably didn’t accept 100% of people that didn’t need financial aid or else they could have filled up their class without getting to the RDs at all. Financial aid need becomes more of an important factor as they run out of funds from their budget for a particular class.

Congratulations on your acceptance!

I am studying in the US and applied ED2, but I haven’t received mail or email from Skidmore yet. Please advise me what to do now, I am really worried.

@sca1999, congrats on your son’s acceptance. My son was in your son’s shoes last year at this time. He applied to Skidmore ED2 after being rejected from Haverford ED1. He’s also interested in Physics. He just started his second semester and loves Skidmore, particularly his Physics classes. He is so excited about Computer Science as well because the department is very strong. We have no regrets about him attending even though it’s very far away (we live in California). If you have any questions, let me know and I’ll try to answer. I think he will love it!

I just got in ED2. I’ve been following this forum and the Skidmore RD forum for the last few weeks but never made an account to comment. Best of luck to everyone else. If anyone has questions or something let me know.

@frutsun Thanks so much for sharing! I really need to hear about how other kids are enjoying it there. So good to hear that the Physics classes are good. We sat in on one and it seemed that they really explain the material. And good to hear about the Computer Science department as well. I’m sure my son will take some of those classes too. When we went back the second time, we did the Science Tour. We were the only ones and we had two students show us around. Even though they are going to build another science building, I was impressed with the existing facilities and all the high end instruments they had and classes in how to use them. We knew it was strong in the arts, but this convinced us that the sciences are good too. And the tour guides were very impressive. I’m so glad your son loves it there. I have heard this time again, that kids are thrilled, but I don’t ever seem to get specifics, except that the food is good. I used to live in California. I tried to get my son to apply out there, for a change of scenery, but he wasn’t into it at the time.
