thanks donpon, yours are pretty good too
i also applied to vassar, bates, wesleyan, colby, bowdoin, and holy cross as well
what do you like about skidmore? it was the only place i didn't get to interview because i had trouble contacting alumni so i don't have a real feel for it. i know one person who is a freshmen at skidmore and she loves it

rachie,
i first learned of the school from my neighbor, who is currently a senior there. When i visited, the first thing that struck me was the city of saratoga springs. its probably a bad idea to get so wrapped up in the town, but it really is just unbelievable. It is everything I could ever want in a college town (reminded me sorta of East Hampton meets Stockbridge, Mass if that means anything to you). When i got on campus, i very readily got a strong feel for the school. It's a very liberal atmosphere, which can be easily seen by the vast amount of male fro's and dreadlocks haha. During the tour we walked past this field near the dorms and i saw a couple of grills being used for a bbq and people laying out on blankets and others playing frisbee. The natural beauty of the school cant be beat (except by vassar!). It was very different than the other colleges ive visited (colgate, bard, conn college, vassar) because it literately is in the woods. Instead of vast open fields, theres beautiful trees and interesting architecture. All of the trees cast a large portion of the school under shade which creates a very cool feel. At the time, i wanted to major in business, and was impressed because there are very very few liberal arts schools that offer this major. Now, however, im leaning towards philosophy, and Im not really sure how strong that program is. All in all, I walked away from the school believing that they offered a strong academic program, with a good amount of academic freedom, and a feel very similair to the one i used to have during my summers at sleepaway camp, where seemed happy.

I really liked the town and the campus when i visited too. It was harder to tell about the academics though, because I visited on a sunday. They seemed to emphasize that they were improving, but i didn't know if that meant they weren't very good now. Do you know what skidmore's strongest programs are? I thought English, which is something I never want to take classes in again.

skidmore is mostly known for its performing/visual arts programs. As for academic improvement, i know theyre trying to attract more science kids and build up that program. I think its a respectable school all around though. I too was unsure of the respectibility but based on the numbers that the kids applying have, and the overlap schools (vassar, conn college, wesleyan, hamilton, tufts) i guess its a respectable choise.

Moocow961, Houston, Tx, 1420 (800v 620m), 3.27 uw, 4.25 w, top 18%

sushirox, PA, 750V/670M, 3.9, 29/189 (stupid math grades)

Socko973, Long Island, 670V/720M, 95.5, top 10%

senatorbrooks, Connecticut, 1430 SAT, 800/760/740 SAT IIs, 3.7 uw, no rank

Moocow, my son and I have been looking at your posts for Vassar and were wondering if you got in. My son was rejected from Vassar EDII and is applying to Skidmore, along with Oberlin, St. John's College, Reed and Goucher.

Bally, CA, 800V, 710M, 800/780/780/740/710/700 SAT IIs, 4.195 weighted (not sure unweighted..maybe 3.95?), no available rank

the numbers of you people applying seem to differ greatly from the general numbers of applicants in previous years. Are all of you people seriously considering Skidmore, or is it a safety?

I have to admit that I am considering Skidmore as a safety, but I do genuinely like the school...my mom went there and absolutely loved it, and when I visited, I really liked the whole feel of the campus, as well as the fact that they have a good dance program.

I am sort of considering Skidmore as a safety but that doesn't mean that i don't like it, it just is easier to get into than all of the other schools I have applied to. I have visited and contacted the admissions office so that they will know i'm interested.

I think a lot of people who apply to the best colleges in the United States use Skidmore as a safety, but this allows them to collect the people who weren't admitted anywhere else.

Also, the people who post on these boards are notoriously known as overachievers so their stats would be much higher anyway.

As a (hopeful) indication of inpending mail, Skidmore now has their Class of 2009 welcome page up and running.

Has anyone found other sites that have more Skid discussion that CC?

Best of Luck...

D.got the big package today. She is happy to be accepted, but Skidmore is not her first choice. Also, her financial package was very low.

Stats;
1350; 700/660/650
Ranked 10/250
GPA 4.0 weighted
good ED's; good recs; fair essays

Also accepted at Oberlin, and Rochester, awaiting financial awards.

Waitlisted at Brandeis, and Vassar.
Also accepted today at Occidental with a small need award, and NO merit award.

I got my acceptance today too!!! Don't think I will attend though even though I got the tuition exchange. I've already been accepted at Bates and Colby but rejected at Vassar :(

My stats are up above but i'll bring them down here
1450, 750/740/670, 4.22 W, top 10%
Okay essays, ECs are concentrated in several areas (music, track, service at church) but no real leadership (it's all hogged by one person)
Congrats to everyone else who got in!!!
