Skidmore Round 1 ED?

ash848484, my daughter is undecided for her major and just likes the school in general. But she took the Science Tour and she and her dad were the only ones on the tour so they got to speak extensively with the student giving the tour who was a science major and loved the school. Hopefully her interest in science makes her application a little stronger, too. She’s not a “shoe in”, so I’m nervous for her.

So do they MAIL the letters on the 15th or are students supposed to RECEIVE them by the 15th? Anyone know? My daughter will be watching the mailbox!!

They mail on the 13th according to the website.

They mail the letters out on the 13th? I didn’t see that on the website, but I believe you. The people I know who applied last year were also notified ON December 15th. These are going to be the longest 8 days of my life. Do you think if you called admissions on the 13th they could just tell you?

wouldn’t that be nice! I hear some schools post it online, but I guess not Skidmore? There’s so many things I’d LOVE to know that goes on behind the sceens of admissions! My daughter is would SO love to go to Skidmore, we can hardly stand the wait as a family. Good luck everyone!

The 13th is a Sunday. But if want really want someone to reconsider their acceptance decision, then be dumb enough to call them with your question. Just chill.

Well, when I went for my interview, Mr. Shorb said they put the letters in the mail two days before the 15th and it also says that in the online data book on the website. So, even though the 13th is a Sunday its not going to stop anyone from putting the letters in a mailbox. I doubt they will tell you over the phone. It could turn into an awkward and uncomfortable situation if you were rejected. I hate the waiting though too! Many of my friends found out from NYU today, so it was really depressing that I can’t say I’m a college girl yet. My family really isn’t thinking about the wait though. My parents were not involved in my college process. I drove myself to most of my visits and I handled all the paper work myself. My friends and I think its such a strange thing that the parents on CC are so involved. Does anyone else feel the same way?

By the way, has anyone joined the Skidmore 2014 group on fb? I won’t join just because I don’t want to get ahead of myself in case of the worst.

My daughter did all the work on her own as well. We did, however, accompany her to the campus for her visit because we flew in from out of state AND because we are interested in sharing with her this experience as she decides where to spend the next 4 yrs of her life (and a significant amount of OUR savings - ha!). And we do talk about it around the dinner table because she’s got a lot on her mind. And as for parents being on CC? It’s an outlet - I can’t speak for all of us obviously but I am VERY excited for my daughter as she makes this huge next step in life. Just two pennies from one parent :-)

Hey everyone, i’m really nervous for the early decsion notification and i know it won’t help much at this point but i’m wondering if someone couls chance me.

White male from public school
GPA: around 3.5,3.6
I snuck in the top quarter of a very competative class.
SAT v690 m530 w640
i have struggled with math and science but other than that my grades are consistently A’s
all of my 1st quarter grades were above 95 except for a pathetic 65 in regular math.

i have been on varsity wrestling for 4 years and captained 2 of those years.
i have community service in soup kitchens, and for a local Democratic comitee.
i am president of my school’s german club and among various other extra curiccs. i am organizing a school poetry competition.

i think my essays are solid, and i clearly indicated that Skidmore is my very first choice.

do you think my low math SAT’s and quarter grades will hurt my admissions chances alot?
thanks

Fender31,

It goes without saying that anyone applying ED to a school makes it someone’s first choice.

They aren’t going to give a dang about wrestling, because that isn’t a varsity sport there. The WILL however understand that high school sports are a big time commitment where someone with good grades has done a very good job of time management.

I doubt that Skidmore has asked for your quarter grades, so I would not even sweat that. Rarer still would be a public school that send out quarter grades unless the pupil asked them to.

As I don’t know your high school, a better idea is to check Naviance (if your school uses this). Most will let you see the composite G.P.A. and test scores for the kids from your school that Skidmore accepted. That would be your info on your chances.

If it helps, of the 14 accepted from my son’s school, 3.63 was the average and 1355 S.A.T. (superscored) so you seem in the ballpark. However, from those accepting it seems clear that precious few of those applicants applied early decision.

Good Luck!

thanks for the helpful reply

oh and good luck everybody!!! keep breathing!!!

I really think the letters will get here this Saturday. I think it is pretty well understood that students will find out on the weekend rather than a school day. I have had two kids who both went ED1 the last two years and they both found out on the Saturday closest to December 15. I am not sure and do not have any insider info, just a hunch and the past that I am going on. Good luck everyone!

Has anyone called and asked? I dont mind callling and asking if they are sending the letters out earlier.

I applied ED1 and am so nervous. My GPA is a 3.5, but I have 3 Cs (math/science) on my transcript. Do you think that’ll kill my chances? My SAT/ACT scores are fine, my school is really competitive but I’m only in 1 AP class (English) this year. I’ve got a lot of philanthropy work and good summer internship last summer. What do you think??

ah glad i found this. I applied ED. and i’m stressing. can’t wait to find out. I am in the middle of the SAT scores, (1320) and idk about ACT (28) 4.0 GPA, good essay. potential baseball player, been in contact with the coach. So I’m not sure, I’m in love with the school though. So saturday possibly? scary thought.

I’m not going to call and ask because I think admissions is really annoyed with me at the moment, BUT finding out saturday would be amazing. I can’t wait till tuesday. I’m going INSANE.

Also, my school feeds into Skidmore, and they’re “admissions” are really weird. They’re usually not based primarily on numbers. They’d rather take a kid with a 3.0 GPA who’s really interesting than a really smart but boring 3.7 (that’s not directed at anybody above, just putting that out there.) There have been a lot of cases at my high school where the guidance counselors have been really confused as to why some kids were accepted and others weren’t… point being, admissions is unpredictable at Skidmore, so I don’t think anyone can “chance” you guys that well.

yeah i’ve heard that too…which is nice…but i feel like it could be a bad thing…idk i’m going to be stressed out until I find out no matter what

Actuallly, Skidmore called my daughter’s HS Guidance and asked for 1st semester grades the day before Thanksgiving …hopefully, we’re taking that as a postitive sign?!? Who knows…she’s about ready to jump out of her skin…beats me to the mailbox every day…
