Hey everyone!!
I thought I would make a discussion board on here since I can’t seem to find one. I’ve been waiting extremely anxiously for college admissions. Unfortunately, today I was rejected to Emory University. But I won’t let that bum me out!!! I already got accepted to my 2 state schools as back ups which is good. I’m currently waiting on 8 more schools, so I have a lot more decisions coming.
I’ll give you some stats.
-3.69 GPA
-Phi Theta Kappa
-Dean’s List
-I won’t be sending my SATs since they really don’t reflect well for me.
-I work 30-35 hours a week, paid work and an internship at the Boys and Girls Club.
-I was a part of Habitat for Humanity, but I couldn’t do it anymore because of my work.
How about you guys??
Hey! Did you end up getting accepted? I got my package in the mail yesterday!
@Junieb13 hey! i haven’t received anything in the mail yet
You probably will soon! I know admission is rolling so I think they send things out at different times.
@Junieb13 did you apply for financial aid? how was the package? i’m a little concerned about the package if i do get in because that will make or break it for me and it says on their website that they have limited grants for transfer students. My EFC is around 4,000 so I hope the financial aid is good. I also got accepted into union college in NY but their financial aid was really bad, they want me to pay $27,000 a year. So i don’t really get why union says they meet the full demonstrated need because it wasn’t even close. i hope skidmore meets my need lol
@hopefull112 I got a $26,000 grant, in addition to work study and about $10,000 regular financial aid.
@Junieb13 oh ok, so is that a reasonable and affordable amount for you? I’m just trying to figure out how much they’re willing to give out lol
I also applied! Waiting to hear back, I called on Friday and they said almost every decision will be out by the end of the week.
Do you think it will help that I had one of my letters of recommendation written by a former Skidmore professor?
@ratgrrrl I believe and hope that it should
Just got my acceptance package in the mail
@ratgrrrl congrats! i haven’t gotten mine yet, hopefully i will tomorrow. I was already accepted to Wesleyan though so Skidmore’s financial aid package will have to beat Wesleyan’s for me to even consider
@hopeful112 Congrats on Wes! (I applied and didn’t get in). Financial aid has been pretty hard for me to secure; despite having a single parent who earns a significantly high yearly salary, the max amount we can actually pay is about 35k and so far Skidmore offered about 5k in aid (for a total cost of 71k! which is a lot of money if you ask me)! Best of luck where ever you end up!
@ratgrrrl Thank you! And wow! that’s a little concerning for me that they won’t be able to do full demonstrated need because I have significant financial need. I pay for college by myself so the max I can afford is around 5k a year. When I did the calculator it stated they would give me around 61k in grants. So hopefully I am able to get the same financial aid to compensate! Are you even considering going there anymore or no?
@hopeful112 I’m working on securing more financial aid! Again, on paper, my family can be seen as pretty well off so I think it comes down to explaining our situation (medical debt, moving across the country in 2016, single 63 year old parent, etc)! I’m leaning towards another college (Connecticut College) but am still thinking about Skidmore!
@ratgrrrl i see! i understand that too, i have a weird situation. i’m still considered a dependent but my mom is pretty unwilling to pay for anything so my EFC shows a bit higher to schools than what I can actually pay out of pocket. i also have some medical debt that is impacting me for 2018 even though colleges only consider 2016. and that’s great! have you gotten accepted, and what other schools did you apply to? i wish you the best of luck on your college endeavors.
@hopeful112 I got in to Skidmore, Kenyon, and Connecticut College and rejected from Cornell, Barnard, Bowdoin, Wesleyan and Dartmouth (which were reaches anyway!)! I ended up dropping out of high school to go to a special college program, so this was my first real college applications experience!
@ratgrrrl I see! So you’re leaning towards Conn College then?
@Junieb13 @ratgrrrl still nothing from Skidmore in the mail lol
Hi @hopeful112 did you end up getting accepted?
