Skidmore vs. SLU (St. Lawrence University)

I have very little time to make a decision!

Details:
I think I want to major in theatre along with psychology or linguistics.
I'm being pulled towards Skidmore because of it's location, but the community/people there worry me. I've heard it's cliquey and people are very self-involved.
I'm being pulled towards SLU because I'd save 70k during my four years of college with the money they gave me -- I don't NEED NEED it, but I would love to save my parents some money. Also, the community seems incredible, and the people seem really awesome. However, I'm worried that I might get bored there -- but on the other hand Skidmore might be too overwhelming/people don't bond because the city is at their disposal.

Things that are also important to me:
I want to play club/intramural lacrosse
I love that St. Lawrence has built a community around sports and that there is so much school spirit when it comes to athletics. I hate that Skidmore doesn't have that.
I am really interested in astronomy, although I know the opportunities to do it at both schools are limited.
I like the fiber arts (skidmore, I know).
I do printmaking.

I've been going to a small, progressive arts school in VT for the past few years. I love the small community feel, but sometime we get bored here (and we're not completely in the middle of nowhere). I also love my education. I want to go to a school where I can mold my education to me, and continue shaping who I am through my education. I'm more inclined towards classes that are less traditional (which is also why I worry about SLU), and Skidmore has that whole "Creative Thought Matters" mantra.

I also want to spend a significant amount of time abroad.
WHAT DO I DO

“but on the other hand Skidmore might be too overwhelming/people don’t bond because the city is at their disposal.”

What city? Albany or NYC?

Saratoga Springs

Have you visited Saratoga Springs? It’s a small town with very limited offerings. I don’t think the horse racing or boutiques draw students away from campus.

Saratoga Springs is a lovely town with glorious historic homes located between campus and the main shopping area. The shopping area is filled with lovely boutiques and fine restaurants. The horse racing season is the end of July through the end of August so really has very little to do with the college.

Oh. I looked for it on the North Way last summer, but missed it. Isn’t it sort of a seasonal place?

SLU has a great outing club if that’s your thing. It’s also popular with hockey players.

Is there any real difference in art or theatre departments?

It sounds like you’re leaning towards SLU. If you love the people there, you will all find ways to keep yourselves occupied.
