Would it hurt my admissions if i chose to take only five classes, instead of the usual six at my school, during my senior year? I've already fulfilled the general ed, and will be taking second-year calculus at a community college, since my high school does not offer it. The classes i will be taking will all be AP and IB classes, and i dont want to take another class to fill up my schedule if i dont have to. what do you guys think?

as long as you take 5 academic classes (including the juco), you'll be fine.

I'd definitely make sure that your load is full fall semester or first trimester.

It matters where you're applying. The most competitive colleges -- HPYS, etc. -- will care, most others will not care because you're already taking a very demanding load.

what about...MIT?

It's one of those very competitive colleges that may care. What else you have going for you -- ECs, awards, etc. -- also will affect whether your taking a lower than normal courseload at your school will hurt you in admissions.

Haha. Shouldn't the mindset of a prospective MIT student be: "Awesome! I get the chance to take another class of my choice." Your call though.

I took 5 academic classes first semester and 4 second semester. I wrote my intended course load on all the relevant forms. It's not a big deal.

Help... is this s solid or skimpy senior (fall semester) schedule?

How does it look?

So would taking 6 AP classes with one being outside of school so that only 5 classes are shown as being taken at school hurt me at HYPS? (On my school report my counselor could write that I am taking the extra class although the class won't show on my transcript until the end of 1st semester)

bump............

You're fine leib.
