I am currently taking Geometry this year. I was given the option to skip Algebra 2 for next year, and move directly into Pre Calc. Don't get me wrong, I've had Algebra 2 experience outside of school (Kumon and self study) so I generally know the concepts. I also have an Algebra 2 textbook that I plan to review over the summer.

I took the placement test for Pre Calc Honors at my school, and surprisingly did better than a large portion of kids taking Alg. 2 Honors.

My question is, should I go through with the plan? Or is it a bad idea?

It is likely a bad idea, but you should do solely because while you may feel miserable about having to work and learn more initially, you should be fine.

However, you will probably have to take the Algebra 2 final to test out of it. You will likely cover the basics, but miss out on key points and not pass, winding up in Algebra 2 [Happened to me]

[This is going on the fact that you appear to already know much of Algebra 2 already]

I wouldn’t say math is my strong point, but I skipped Algebra II and barely got A-'s in Honors precalc. Barely as in 90%'s both semesters. I think it’s partially because I didn’t work too hard - but if you put in the effort, I think you’ll be fine (:

Personally I wouldn’t, because Algebra 2 is truly a foundation for higher level math. Though if you truly feel comfortable with the material it is up to you.

I skipped Algebra II went to Pre-cal H and got an A. Now I skipped Ap Calc AB and took AP Calc BC lol I think you will do fine don’t worry Just self-study Algebra II over the summer and you will be ok.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have the Algebra and Trigonometry: Structure and Method book 2 textbook. If anyone is familiar with it, is the book sufficient?

personally, skipping alg2 was the best thing ever- though prob because I self-studied from AoPS and learned the material far better than those who took the course. For some reasons the teachers/counselors at our school want you to not skip courses.
