hey guys,
what do you think about taking physics, and skipping chemistry all together? the reason is because chemistry wont help me much, and taking it out will also lighten my courseload a bit.

have any of you skipped chemistry and went with physics instead?

i thought you meant skipping class, like taking the course but not coming to class on test days and stuff. but yeah other than that i cant help you.

So, in my school chemistry is not required. All that we need to take is Earth Science (which is freshman year - no matter how smart you are in 8th grade) and biology sophomore year. From then on you have the non-reccomended choice to stop taking science alltogether, or you can choose from a variety of courses varing in depth and so forth. Most juniors in my school do take chemistry, mainly because it is reccommened by our guidance councilers.

But, if you don't think it'll be necessary for you, then don't take it, but if that's the case, do pick an equally challenging (prefereably science) course to replace it with. If you do that, I don't see what the problem is, and who knows, perhaps what you take instead will make you stand out more.

Many colleges require at least a year of high school chemistry, so it might be detrimental to you if you didn't take it... double check with your counselor to see if skipping it would be alright.

I agree, most colleges would like to see all four sciences.
Additionally, that way if you take any course in say chemistry later on in college, you will have SOME background in the subject area, which is always beneficial.

I think everyone takes Chemistry in my school, since there's a requirement that you have to be taking or have taken Math III to get into Physics, and most people end up taking Chemistry before they get to that point.

Also, Earth Science isn't required in my school, I guess. I never took Earth Science, and I went from Biology in freshman year to Chemistry now in sophomore year, and next year will be Physics. A lot of people do this if their teachers recommend them.

chemistry helps in EVERY science and mathematics. believe me. it would be ridiculous to pass up chemistry for biology or even physics to an extent (although mech/e+m are rather important)
