Skipping Classes

Hey guys

Im a fresh in

for sure next year:
ap bio
ap euro
hon humanities (my school's hon eng for 10th grade)
span 7-8 (again no hon available)
[chem]
[math]

should i skip precalc and go strait to AP calc AB? im really good at math. also, should i do ap chem without hon chem before? if it is really needed, i can do honors chem online right now or during the summer. again im rly good at math.

thanks guys!

Skip precal, dont skip honors chem.

ive heard though that what u learn in all of hon chem is equivalent to the first six weeks of AP so its more worthwhile to just do ap chem

Sigh, the title misled me.

Make sure you can take enough math credits if you skip.

don’t skip precalc. You may very well end up in calculus and freak out because your brain hasn’t developed enough yet to get it completely. Also precalc introduces more than just calculus, it sets up the math for a lot of other higher courses. You’re already ahead of the curve by being in alg 2 right now.

You can skip hon chem. AP chem is not much different than regular chem. I took AP Chem first year of chemistry and it went fine. Since you’re super good at math, it’ll be fine for you for sure.

I skipped precalc after my freshman year also, the first month sucks but you’ll be fine after that. Be prepared to do a little extra work sometimes when you’re not as familiar with concepts that are gone over in precalc; I’m in BC now and there’s still areas I’m a little patchy on.

Lol that wouldn’t be an issue…By now he’s in the formal operations stage of development, so he’s set to learn high level math. It’s a matter, now, of having a solid foundation.

Skip
your

classes.

I went from Alg 2/Trig to AP Calculus BC.

Easy as hell.

That seems misleading, given that the OP is using this advice to contemplate such a major move. Didn’t you keep posting about problems with low grades?

I got it to an A. The low grades were from not doing the work in the online class.

The material in calculus is not hard.

If you’re contemplating going to AB, I think it’s doable. Last time I heard from those who have taken AB, it’s really just limits, derivatives, integrals.

^Yeah essentially, and applications thereof.

^ LOL.

Good one, if I was 3.

Not good at all, but I’m going to improve it.

Don’t you have something better to do ■■■■■?

So I should be fine skipping both pre-calculus and doing AP chem next year?

First off, it’s best, as a general rule, to not take advice from the majority of the people on this board on skipping courses. You know your own ability best, and if you think you’re good enough at math to skip precalc, by all means go ahead.

I’m a sophmore taking pre-cal & calculus 2. Right now I have a B in pre-cal fail but a high A in Calculus 2. I took Calculus 1 last semester and got an A too, so you should be fine if you skip pre-calculus.

Idk about skipping chemistry honors though…but thats probably because I’m not a chemistry person.

I don’t know about skipping precal. Calc uses some of the stuff you learn in there, but it doesn’t review it. Having a a solid base in trig is important and some of the extra algebra will challenge, and therefore help you, more than the math in Calc. If anything, skip Calc AB and go straight to BC junior year. BC is basically AB plus a few more chapters pinned onto the end, so you’ll still cover all of the same material. I did that without any problems, so you should be fine if you’re good at math like you say. Hope this helps.

Honestly precal was harder–way harder–for me than Calc BC. So yeah, not taking it wouldv’e been nice. And we don’t do much stuff that you need precalc for, honestly. Trig, yes, precalc, no. The trig you need for calc could really easily be reviewed the summer before.

As for chem I’ve no clue; I HATE CHEMISTRY VERY VERY MUCH BECAUSE IT IS EVIL.

Haha, yes. My thought process: skipping classes… on CC? –> How uncharacteristic! –> But it is HSL —> but kid’s sn has nerdy in it –> open thread… shouldv’e guessed… lol.
