Skipping first semester engineering physics with AP Credit?

I am going to Auburn University in the fall to major in Mechanical Engineering. Would it be a wise choice to skip my first semester of Engineering Physics with the credit gained from a 5 on the AP Physics C: Mechanics test?

I have self studied the AP physics class my senior year because my school does not offer it. However, I have done the same labs and have used the same textbook that Auburn uses in their Engineering Physics 1 class.

Should I skip Engineering Physics 1 and go straight into Engineering Physics 2 (the electricity and magnetism portion)? Or should I just retake the class to keep a good GPA?

Our as took 2 years of AP physics in HS but still re-took all the physics for his BEE. We and he thinks it was a good review and helped him make a smooth transition to college. He also re-took calculus, aven tho he had taken AP calc AB.

A friend’s S opted out and accelerated instead of repeating. He worked hard but did fine. Maybe talk with the engineering advisor at AU for guidance.

Get the old tests for Physics and see if you know the material. If you do, there’s no strong reason to repeat it. With that said, Physics is foundational and AP C only covers part of what you’ll cover in college. I advised my son to go directly into Calc III, but to retake Physics.

Sorry about the typos. Hard typing on phone.

Yes, as suggested above, try the old final exams for the physics course you are allowed to skip, so that you can make an informed decision based on what Auburn’s physics course (PHYS 1600?) expects from you.
