Skipping Intro to Bio

I got a 5 on the AP Bio exam after my junior year so i'm eligible to get out of intro to bio but i'm not sure if i should. I plan on being pre-med and so I wasn't sure if I should skip it. I've also been told not to skip it because it will help me boost my GPA which will help me look good getting into med schools. I'm also worried though because I took the test a year ago and I don't know how much of it I remember.
Thoughts?

haha I doubt it'll be a GPA booster. The mean is curved to a B- which is the harshest curve you'll encounter in your premed classes.

That said, I think it's an excellent class. I received a 5 on the AP test as well but felt the Cornell course went much more in depth. It shouldn't require you to have any previous knowledge.

but do you think it would be worth it to take it or should i just skip it. if it's not going to be a GPA booster then i probably won't want it. are you glad you took it or do you think it would've been better just to skip it?

Oh, I'm absolutely happy I took it and would recommend that all premeds take it, regardless of what they received on the AP test. You'll have to take intro bio lab for med school so the most you can skip is the 2-credit lecture course. Like I said, it's a great prep for the MCAT, the tests are multiple choice and you get plenty of time, and the class is challenging but not stressful.

I received A- (lecture), A- (lab) and A (lecture), A+ (lab) in my two semesters so it CAN be a GPA booster.

BTW: If you don't take intro bio, by the time you take your MCAT's you'll be approximately 3-4 years removed from your bio AP course.

my biggest fear is that i'm going to be pre-med and I work hard in high school and plan on working really hard in college but i'm afraid of falling behind at cornell since so many of the kids are really smart. in high school i've always been at the top of my classes, but now i feel like i have to compete against people like myself and not all of us can do well and go to med school. Do you find being a pre-med major is really hard, or is it possible if you push yourself and try hard to beat the curve and do well.

What about for those of us majoring in Bio that plan to move on to research-oriented careers? I honestly learned the Bio material very, very well (800 on SAT II molecular), but I did take it way back as a sophomore. I've heard some horror stories about the Intro Bio courses, and I don't want to ruin my GPA from the get-go at Cornell... I'm really leaning towards skipping it, but is it really that important, especially if the more detailed information related to my major is in other courses?

Grad schools,in this case, Med schools, prefer that students take require premed courses in college. Just keep this in mind, though the SAT IIs and APs are at a higher level than HS level courses, it still does not compare to the actual college course itself. Much of the material covered in HS is either rapidly covered or not covered in depth enough. It's best if you do it over in college. Keep in mind, MCAT.

i think i might have accidentally clicked report offensive post, if i did im sorry and i take it back. i was lagging.
