How difficult would it be to go from a pre-calc course straight to MAT 104? (self-studied Calc AB stuff over the summer)

Why would you want to do that? (Unless you want to be a math major... but if you didn't take calc in high school I kind of doubt you are going to be...though I shouldn't assume.)

Took a CC summer course for Calc I so I know the material decently-ish. Didn't take calc last year because didn't want to be overscheduled. Am going to be an engineering major and I want to open up some more flexibility in my courses.

You should be fine, it's definitely doable if you do some self studying when necessary and are diligent about the course

it should be fine, just make sure to actually do the psets. I skipped 104 and it turned out fine. If youre an engineer it seems like the best plan.

Well, I did not take calculus in high school, studied an intro calc book over the summer, and plopped myself into MAT 104 and did fine.

The reason why you'd do it: because you can! Why take an easier course that will just slow you down. Both 103 and 104 require memorization, etc., so it's not really clear what you'd gain from MAT 103 if you can do a simple derivative. 104 requires very little knowledge from 103.
