Skipping Math 3A with AP credit

Can I skip Math 3A with AP credit? I have Calculus BC credit also, but I only plan to use my AB credit.

nooooo … ap gets you nothing but actual # credits, no skipping math classes

^You can skip classes in the 30 series…

Well, that’s my current dilemma. I can’t decide whether I want to take the 30 series or the 3 series. I can take either for my major. Is the 3 series easier than the 30 series?

Definitely.

you should take the 30 series to challenge yourself. that’s what college is all about. i also recommend you take the physics 1 series instead of the 6 series.

The statement that “college is about challenging yourself” is somewhat false. The true purpose is of course to give you skills to set you up for a career. All that feel good discovering self-identity jazz is a spinoff.

Be practical and keep a good GPA as first priority. If you can take the challenge (and you want to) and maintain the same grades, then do it, but challenging yourself for the sake of challenge is not what college is about by any means.

Well, I’m a neuroscience major, so math isn’t particularly relevant to my major. I just have to get it over with.

what? AP doesn’t get you out of classes? So If you got a 5 on the AP Calc BC test, does that mean you CAN’T go straight to 31B as soon as you go to UCLA?

^^ lol no quite the opposite dont listen to the 2013ers. if you get a 5 on BC, you HAVE to go to start in 3C/32A LOL.

i dont know how the subscoring business factors in. you gotta find out yourself.

@zzzboy, Oh…then if that’s the case…I’m in EE, and according to their website, for the college of engineering, a 5 on the BC only gets you out of 31A, but for say the college of letters and sciences, you can get out of 31A AND 31B. X_X

But the website you provided is for the math dept. hm…

I got a 5 on the BC exam, and placed out of 31 A and B. However, you can also opt out of 3A and B. I chose to do that, took 3C fall quarter, and finished the Math 3 series.

icebluefaery, what’s your college?

Icebluefaery, is it possible to opt out of just 3A using just AB credit? I need to take a year of math for premed anyway =/, so I was planning to take 3B, 3C and stat.

Oh. Jk. Zzzboy’s link answered my question. If I got a 4 on the BC exam, I can opt out of 3A. I’m pretty sure I got a 4, so we will see.
