This year I'm in Algebra II/ Trig, and I'm going to be taking precalc over the summer with some friends. Would it be a bad idea to take AP Calculus bc instead of ab in my junior year because I'm taking precalculus over the summer?

Other info:
I'm currently a sophomore.
The calc ab teacher at our school is known to be a horrible teacher.
I'd be taking, along with AP Calc, APUSH, AP Lang, AP Bio (or AP chem, not sure yet), French 3 honors, and either orchestra or AP Psychology.

I think it depends how strong you are at Math.

Calculus AB = Calculus I
Calculus BC = Calculus I & II

So BC is supposed to cover the same material AB covers. Is AB a prerequisite for BC at your high school?

If you are skipping pr-calc then you should take AB just in case the summer course doesn’t cover as much as it should to prepare you for BC.

Hi halcyonheather, no calculus ab isn’t a prerequisite at my school, manny skip it actually.

If you have all the prerequisites for BC, take BC.

I skipped precalc from algebra 2 too. I didn’t do hw and ********ted the entire thing and I’m still passing BC. Calc is really different from precalc and as long as you have a good teacher BC shouldn’t be bad
