I’ve been told by a few of my teachers that if I wanted to take a math class over the summer, it would be best to take Precalculus as it’s the easiest. A lot of my friends took Algebra 2 in freshman year and are on track to take AP calculus in junior year. I’m taking algebra 2 next year as a sophomore, so I’ll take calculus as a senior. I’m interested majors that are heavier in math (Econ/actuarial science/finance) so I think it may be beneficial to be able to take an extra math class senior year (probably stats). But, taking precalculus over the summer will probably prevent me from doing any meaningful extracurriculars. Would doing an online class give me more time to do extracurriculars? Is taking precalc over the summer even worth it?
You are fine if you can reach calc by senior year. I wouldn’t bother trying to take precalc over the summer.
great! thanks
I agree…it is very good to reach Calculus by Senior year. But you are already on track for that.
Don’t take pre-calc over the summer unless YOU want to…not because your friends are advancing in Math
Thirding. Calculus senior year is great for stem/business.
Getting through a year of Calc while in HS is fine - you’ll meet the expectations of pretty much any college admissions program.
Giving up valuable work/EC experience to jam in Stats in HS isn’t worth it, IMO.
And wouldn’t the beginning of August be a bit late to start a “summer” class?
