skipping sub-chapters?

im in comm college. im taking calc II now.
my math prof is a very patience and a good teacher.
the only problem is,,since many of other "adult students" hardly digest all of this calc things,, he has to teach slowly and spends the entire class as a review class before every test.
we suppose to finish in chapter 9.6 (ratio and root series) before final,,
but thanks to the review classes, now we can only do 9.3 (about integral test and p-series)..
its really bother me since i want to transfer to 4yrs univ this fall and taking act sci, which needs alot of calc..
does it happen in other comm college/college? or just my college?
will it really affect me later when i take calc 3?

thanks

Professors can skip chapters in a textbook at their own discretion.

You didn’t name the textbook you are using, but it sounds like the sections you are skipping are about various convergence tests. It may help you to know that this is one of the less important topics in Calc. I have never learned these tests, and I took multivariable calc (calc 3) and two statistics classes without any negative consequences. (Convergence tests will come up again in real analysis though if you plan to take that much math.)

If you are really concerned, why don’t you just read the remaining chapters on your own?

Hear, hear! There’s no reason you can’t read them yourself, do the work, then ask the professor for a key or to grade them and help understanding what you didn’t get. A win/win… you get the material and you come across as a top notch student to the professor (if you are polite and not arrogant.)

AHHH! I feel the same way! Those adults need to brush up on their math skills before taking the class. I also was annoyed when we didn’t get to where we were supposed to be, but it was no huge deal. You could just try to go over it yourself and then ask the teacher for help if you need it.

things that we’ll skip are comparasions of series, alternating series, and the ratio and root series.
i thought about that too. ill read the chapters on my own in summer..
cause calc 2 in the univ that i want to transfer does up to taylor series and power series, which are way in,9.8??

i just wonder if this happens in other college.. x]

Yes, it does happen quite frequently that a course does not cover all of the material that is on the syllabus for one reason or another.

usually you only need to understand the concept of integrals and derivatives and their graphs, unless youre going into a math major.
