Skype interview

Hello,
How do you think about skype interview? Did anyone have the experience? some tips?
Are they using Cam to see each other, or just the phone?
Will it be better to visit the school to get interviewed than skype, even though I am living far away across the USA?

I had a Skype interview. I used a webcam. It went okay, I guess!

It’s always better to visit the school if you can - it not only gives the school a chance to meet you, it gives you a chance to meet the school! If you can afford the time and expense of visiting, you should certainly try to do it.

But if you can’t, then turn on your webcam and do a Skype interview. And, since it’s an unusual way to interview, you might want to try practicing ahead of time - ask a family member or friend to practice “interviewing” you, just so you can get used to presenting yourself well on a webcam.

Last application season I did two skype interviews. The first one was troubling because I had a connection problem and had to litterally call them to get the entire thing worked out, but in the end it was fine! I think it was fairly similar to a phone interview only you can actually see the persons reactions. You would also want to consider dressing nicely as you would for an interview (at least from the waist up).

As always I would go for an in person interview if possible, but I understand what you mean I live completely on the opposite side of the country and that simply wasn’t possible.

So you can wear your pajama bottoms and pink fuzzy slippers?

Initiating a Skype call with the video is a little funky when used between a Mac and Windows~based pc. You can find instructions on the web.

i have a MacBook and will probably do Skype interviews… will they see in as high quality as I see myself on my screen? (that’s if they don’t have mac)

I did a skype interview for all my schools ( andover exeter and sps, I am a current sps student) I love it for andover and exeter I dressed nicely and all that jazz but for the sps interview i had just gotten back from crew practice so i was in workout clothes and a braid. I later talked to my interviewer when i got here and he said he loved it. He thought it was great i wasn’t afraid to be myself. I mean i am not saying do it right after practice but don’t overthink it

I read that these interviews are increasing in proportion to the travel expenses, any info on the list of schools that provide that type of interview?
