Slacker question

So I'm thinking of applying to Columbia, but seeing as it's now nearly 4 AM on the 31st, it seems a little late to start the application. I have a number of other essay I can draw from, and basically everything else is finished, but how long and specific is the Columbia application? How many essays/short answers/etc.? Basically, should I bother?

just do it, it should take you 2-3 hours to complete the whole thing, also (if I’m not mistaken) the dead line might be in 44 not 20 hours. I put the Columbia application together fairly quickly, although I think I suited the application, like had a ready list of books, plays, movies, festivals etc. to put down.

To be specific, confidentialcoll is right, it shouldn’t take you very long. I think their essay prompt is “write something that conveys who you are” or something along those lines so you should be fine using your common app essay. I think that’s what most people do.

Anyway the rest of the application:

-600 char “Why Columbia”
-300 char “Most Meaningful EC”
-300 char lists of most enjoyed books, required readings, periodicals, shows and exhibits from the last year.

That’s it, basically, besides normal application stuff. They also have two 300 char spaces to describe your past two summers but I don’t think that’s meant to be anything more than a straightforward description.

Wait, what about other materials like recs, transcripts, SAT scores; can those be submitted after the deadline?

Also, the deadline is Jan 4th, not the 1st.

Oh yea you need all that stuff too. Hmm that could be an issue. I’m not sure what the rules are concerning this situation.

thank you sooo much. it’s all really helpful. is the “why columbia” just that, or is it any more specific? As far as the personal statement-type essay goes, i’ve heard rumors of a 500 word limit? My common app essay is around 1200, though it’s comfortable on 2 pages.

SATs I can submit today, and I might be able to run around in school on the fourth and get my recs then too (hopefully).
