Sleep Thread

I averaged 3 hours per night the past two weeks. Over the year its probably around 4-4.5. My body is used to it now.

got three hours of sleep last night acuse i had a huge history test on 8 chaptes...usually get 5 1/2 hours...on bad nights 4

The "mall" scenario only applies to some people. I spend most of my time in work and EC's and they are huge leeches of my precious minutes. Bassmaster, it's good that you set your free time to weekends and summers, but just make sure you arrange it wisely. Running yourself dry on weekdays and then staying out late with friends on weekends is not a healthy cycle.

I average a 4-5 hour/night school week (work, EC's, and AP homework), usually encompassing Saturday (due to Chinese school and work) and even Sundays (my homework 'make-up' day). I currently work three jobs and live with a single parent (who works full time) and a younger sibling involved in many activities. If you are worried about 'real' life, bills, and the like...I suggest you start asking your parents now. There is nothing more effective in learning about bills and contracts than having to order or negotiate new internet services, wireless services, and whatever services. Get your own bank account and get a job over summer. Work on this now, and you will be much better off than your inexperience peers when college rolls around.

Just do not procrastinate. I do not know how much I stress that. I know if I did not (like I am right now...) I would be very much ahead of the game and much more well rested.

wow...I feel lucky...I don't get very much homework at my school so I get upwards of 7 hours a night

reblin, same thing with me. i always felt my high school may be easier than others, but from what im reading it doesn't even compare. my school has it so the first 3 classes are 50 minutes long, and the last 2 classes interchange on AB days (which are 90 minutes long). i have the same classes all year long. i take 2 ap classes (stats and biology) and my other 5 courses are all honors. i only really get time consuming homework in biology, which is mainly taking notes or studying for a test. in stats i dont really get much homework, and the class seems to me like a bit of a joke. i go to bed around 11 and wake up at 6:30, which is much different than many of you. its really eye opening to see such a difference. i go to a public school.. do many of you go to private high schools?

also, i know this isnt the right thread but i have another question. i havent heard much about ACT until i found this site. my high school doesnt mention it, and i am just wondering what the test really is, when i am supposed to take it, do i need to take it, etc. i plan on applying to BU for example, and i am just wondering if it is a neccesity, or if anybody can tell me more about it, it would be a great help.

i'm generally in bed by 9:30, but i have to read before i sleep (i'm in the middle of WICKED - i highly recommend it), so i don't end up falling asleep until around 10:00 or 10:30. i try to finish my hw before 9:30, but if HOUSE is on or i have mock trial or something like that, i generally get up earlier to finish it all.

i really work hard to get hw done during the day and right after school because i desperately need sleep at the end of the day. and, usually, 7pm-8pm is reserved for gym time.

it's been working out pretty well for the past couple of years. i'm satisfied with it, at least. i don't rely on any caffiend products; i just drink a cup of coffee every morning. i used to have really bad sleeping habits and i drank tons of coffee every day back in freshman year, but it was due to bad study habits...i got rid of those fast.

it's all about time management, really.

To SZ 0626: some students find the ACT easier than the SAT and score higher on it (or vice versa...but I have yet to hear about that). The ACT is based on a 36 point range and almost all colleges (you might want to double check) will take your ACT score instead of your SAT score. I know a girl who scored around an 1880 for her SAT's but scored a pretty hot 33 on the ACT's.

And I go to a public school. The teachers just like to give us insane workloads - it's become a tradition at our school. If you are not up at 3 in the morning working on USHAP, physics, or any other type of god-forsaken assignment...you are not a junior. :)

I've become accustomed to logging on AIM before dawn hits and seeing all those disgruntled "HOMEWORK" away messages.

Yeah. i usually get like 6-7 hours of sleep. Before big tests or project due dates, i get about 3 hours of sleep or less.

I have an awful sleep schedule. I've been up since 3:30 this morning studying for two tests I have today.

It's easier for me to go to bed around 11 and wake up at some ungodly hour to study where there aren't any distractions...like this. Damnit.

Got 0 hours of sleep tonight.. it's finals week, whaddya expect?

same here

My problem isn't sleep so much as lack of any free time what so ever. Somehow I always end up having work, band, errands, ect. every single day and that more than anything wears me down. Let's not forget homework...finals week was a nightmare.

My thing is that I think school needs to start later(mine starts at 7:20) because I never seem to go to bed at any different time durring the week or on weekends even if I have to wake up at different times. If they pushed school back a couple hours I'd get two more hours of sleep.

Since it's a new year, I'm going to make one of my resolutions over more sleep. I'm tired of always being tired.

So, I'll force myself to be in bed by 9:30, which will give me 8 hours and 30 minutes to sleep :D .

Geez you guys get a lot of sleep :/ If I'm lucky I can get in bed by 11 or so. And then it'll take me another hour to actually fall asleep. If I've got a lot of work to do I'll probably go to bed at 1am. I wake up at 6am.

5 hours a night!! whoot

mwahaha... our school district has a finals exemption policy.. so hip hip! none required for me :D (of course >< most of my AP classes have some sort of cumulative test that's not officially called a "semester final" so the teachers can bypass the exemption thing >>; grrr)

Last year, as a junior (sometimes labeled the hardest year in high school), I went to bed at around 8 PM and got up at 5:30 every morning.

...and now, I'm not going to sleep until 11 or 12 at night, and waking up at the same time each morning. It's funny, because during my sports seasons, I actually end up getting more sleep, wasting less time, and doing better in terms of grades. Now that it's the off-season for my primary sport (I'm on another team right now, just for the social aspect. I'm not even doing it to keep in shape - I'm a coxswain, so I don't need to do that) I've morphed into a time-waster and don't sleep much.

I think junior year was "harder" in the sense that I stressed more about my performance.. grades had to be As and AP scores had to be excellent and I was just like @____@ ahhh! colleges will see this year and be like 'hmmmm'

now.. I actually have 2x the hw load in senior year >< but really... no stress? especially not now since all the college apps are complete... .. and I think hw is easier to deal with than that squeaky voice in the back of my head screaming about expectations rolls eyes wow, hindsight..

usually 6 hrs of sleep! :S I fall asleep a lot less in class this year than junior year though... and I got more sleep last year too.

I usually get stuff done by like 10pm, but for some reason there is always some distraction (reading, drawing, etc) that keeps me up until 1am... lame.

Last couple of weeks, I've slept anywhere from 0 - 4 hours a day. I'm not tired either. I'm perfectly fine and ready-to-go in the morning. :D
