Sleep

This may sound like a stupid question but I am curious about sleep. If I am not tired at all, would going to bed knowing that I won't fall asleep for 2 hours be better for my energy the next day or should I do whatever I want I get tired and then go to sleep when I am tired? I usually don't get tired until midnight but my parents sometimes make me go to bed at 10 or 10:30. Is there maybe some sort of activity that I can do to make myself tired so I can fall asleep faster and not be so tired the next day?

ive heard putting lavender in/on your pillow helps you go to sleep. and you can get some supplements from GNC too if needed.

lol my parents try to make me do the same thing!

If you have time, exercise during the day so you’re tired earlier. I seriously envy you for being able to sleep at 10 though. Don’t you have homework?

Drink warm milk and/or eat a baked potato. They are both foods that will help you become tired.

@jhwu: How much homework do YOU have? LOL, I often go to bed at 8 some nights. Sleep is SO important for developing minds and bodies, so I make sure I always have plenty of it. And I still get all my work done with plenty of free time. :p

I go to bed a 12 most days.

Once, I lay awake until 2. It was the most agonizing thing. And I woke up at 6 the next morning.

If you can’t fall asleep, you’re either not tired enough or not confused enough. Or both.

How is that humanely possible?! lol…j/k

Seriously, I can’t remember the last time when I fell asleep before 12:00 AM.

I would love to get more sleep - maybe after the whole AP madness :)

^ agree. i want sleep =[ really bad. but cant. nope. cant.

Wow how do you get to bed that early? I haven’t gone to bed earlier than 12 like all semester… Uhm, sometimes resting in bed works pretty nicely for those ~2 hours, or you could read. Just something that tires your eyes, makes them heavy, and want to close.

You should listen to classical music.

^ That gets me excited rather than going to bed. I’m a classical pianist.

I have reasons to believe I’m nocturnal.

I usually finish homework at 9 or 10 now that the tennis season is over. I do not procrastinate at all so there are no days at all when I have to stay up any later than that. I may attempt to try to do some more excercising to see if that can ware me out.

I usually spray black chamomile on my bed spread. It’s extremely relaxing and I’m always up and ready to go.

Yeah, lavendar and chamomile do help, and excercise should wear you out enough. Maybe watch more tv lol :p

Sleeping 5-7 is optimal. People who sleep 8+ die faster.

^ That’s not 100% true for teenagers.

It’s not true at all, to be honest. Teenagers need a good 9-10+ hours of sleep per night for optimum brain and body function and development.

As you get older, yes, less sleep is required. But a lot of people seem to think that when you’re in your late teens (16+) you’re essentially an “adult” and therefore need no more than 7 hours of sleep each night. That’s outrageous, considering the fact that our brains still develop into our early twenties.

Sleep is for the weak.

I wake up so i can go back to sleep

Then why are you on CC?
