Sleeping in class?

I very rarely sleep in class until now...
I'm taking a semester of economics and it's soo boring, therefore i fall asleep. But it's not like i put my head down on the desk and say "screw it" I just sit there listening to him talk and bam my eyes are closed and my head is hanging down...serously.

So what I'm asking is...what can i do to stay awake during class? We write our notes beforehand so he just talks about the section all hour. Oh and when you fall asleep...he sprays you with water.

Thanks!

its not possible to stay awake in boring classes... i go 2 sleep in english every single day

definitley the same way in economics

I nod off in Art History from time to time - my teacher's nice about it.

Funny experiences involving kids sleeping in class. A kid in math class fell asleep, so the teacher told the rest of the class to leave quietly, and they left him in the room alone (10 minutes left in class). He told me he woke up and was like "What the ****?"

My religion teacher rings a bell in kids ear when they fall asleep, and a freshman history teacher would kick the bottom of the desk to wake kids up.

My Alg II/Trig teacher noticed that a few kids had fallen asleep, so he made us all run downstairs and outside, and do jumping jacks while yelling his name.

Sleeping in class... ALL THE FREAKING TIME. There's some subjects just too boring not to sleep in. coughdatabasescough Also, all my notes are up online...

Hmm...I seem to have a bit of trouble staying awake in class too...but it's not too bad...it's actually gotten a little rare. But here's what I do...

First of all, don't put your head down, that just invites yourself to go to sleep.
Second, I just try to keep myself active even though I'm only sitting in a chair. But I just fidget, maybe not the best thing to do, but that tapping your leg thing on the ground (that thing people who can't sit still do)...do that, it can keep me awake for a while if I have fallen asleep, or just keep me from falling asleep.

Wow, I just realized I don't really have many tips...but I hope those help.

Also just write or doodle...do something that keeps your mind active.

I know a kid who went to a doctor about his sleeping problems...In AP gov. class, he slept when we had a guest (who was standing right in front of him), he would fall asleep while driving, and he slept on and off during the AP test.

mcz, did he have narcolepsy?

I fall asleep in class all the time. Like, literally 2 or 3 times per day. I try to do it inconspicuously though (like, cover my eyes with my hand and pretend like I'm reading out of the book or something), and most of the time nobody notices.

my english teacher lectures from the moment the bell rings to begin class until the moment it rings to dismiss class.

she hardly takes a breathe... she honestly does not stop.

i NEVER slept in a class until this year... what i do to stay awake is simply save one subject worth of hw to do in that class everyday... this way i get work done... and tune my teacher out... i have found that quite helpful

somebodynew: there was actually a very similar experience to your story. in my spanish class (it was 6th period) some kid fell asleep. so everyone walked out of the class. our teacher changed the time on the clock to 5:00 in the afternoon. then he happened to see the janitor and told him to walk into the class and start doing the vaccuum. when the kid heard the noise he literally jumped up (we were watching through the window) and he literally thought it was 5.00. then we walked back in. it was funny though!

but going back to the question, i cant sleep in class (literally). i dont like the position of having ur head on a hard surface. i try to close my eyes and hide under my hooded sweater but i cant sleep. i try to though.

I sleep all the time in my AP Chem class. The teacher lectures for a full three hours (AP sciences at my school are three hours long), so I enjoy a good old nap every other day.

Girl, I don't know. I sleep in class so I can't help you there. And I sleep SHAMELESSLY.

The only thing to do is drink some cold water or coffee or eat something (bananas!) before class. Because it sucks when you fight sleep with no external help.

Keep drinking water. It keeps me up for about a good 5~10 minutes...If not then just say you wanna go to the bathroom or something and sleep, lol (never tried it yet :/)

how do u guys NOT want to sleep in class? i try to in order to catch up on sleep from the previous night but i cant. it sux but i dont know how to.

I don't know about you, but apparently at my school, if you're incredibly incredibly tired during a period, you can jask your teacher to go to the nurse, and the nurse will let you sleep through the period and wake you up at the end. That's what my chem teacher asked us to do last year if we were too tired, instead of sleeping in her class. I don't know how many other teachers would actually let students do that, though.

yeah, at my school if you feel like sleeping you can just go to the nurse and say you don't feel well and she just lets you sleep in her office for a period or two.
i dont intentionally fall asleep in class but i dont usually tryto stay awake either haha... i fell asleep in physics on the first day of school. mostly i just sleep in history because my teacher never has anything useful to say and he's really boring. and basically anytime we watch videos or anything with the lights off i fall asleep

I once fell asleep while sitting in on a class at a college that I was visiting

In my history class, about 5 people fall asleep every day. My teacher is such a sweet old lady though; she just says "Ok guys? Maybe today you won't fall asleep! We're doing the Civil War!" And this is free of irony, sarcasm, or making fun of anyone. It's actually sad. However, if you pay attention most of the time, she lets you get by if you fall asleep for an entire period.

The nurse at my school has a bunch of couches and beds in sort of a dark nap room. Boys are kind of screwed in this sense, because all a girl has to do is say the word cramps and they get sent to the nap room. The nurse is supposed to let you stay for 30 minutes, but she's forgetful and you can usually stay 1-3 periods, depending on how good you are at faking sick.

I normally don't fall asleep because teachers find it very disrespectful and i also do too.

But i fell asleep once in bio class and my teacher poked me with a long stick for like 5min. Apparently it was hilarious because i was trying to steer away from the stick (whilst still slleeping) and sleeptalked (murmuring.. most it didn't make sense)- go away, stop it! etc..

I used to think my anthropology teacher was so incredibly boring, but to keep myself awake, I would eat hot cheetos or chew peppercorns and dried chili peppers -- the hotter the better. Those really wake you up!

I actually managed to wind up liking the class quite a bit.
