Sleepover Weekend

I am signed up for the sleepover weekend in January. I am really excited because I am pretty interested in CMU. Is anyone else going to this event? How many people are usually at one of these? Has anyone, current or prospective students, been to one? Thanks for any insight you can give.

I'm a current student. While I haven't been to one, I witnessed the people on my floor take in some baggers for the nights. It seems that most of the day is filled with tours of various buildings and info sessions and around dinner time they drop you off at a current students dorm. They all seemed to be having fun... a bunch of us took the baggers to the UC and we talked till 2-3 AM

I wonder if, as an admitted student, i should go?

If you're undecided about if you want to go to CMU or another school, you really should attend. I went to programs like sleeping bag weekend at USC, Rice, Northwestern, and CMU and it really helped me to make my decision. Even if two schools look similar on paper, there's a big difference in the feel. For instance, Nothwestern has less students in soroities/fraternities than USC, but when I visited, it seemed like Northwestern was still more dominated by Greek life. CMU, while it has a significant percentage of people who go Greek, has a not as visible Greek community.

If you're admitted, it's really up to you. I assume you're ED, so you're coming her no matter what. If you want an excuse to get out of school, I guess you should come. I came after I was admitted, but I was RD. Several of the people I met during sleeping bag weekend were coming for sure, but they wanted to meet the freshman advisor and get CMU sweatshirts, so they came. It can help you decide what dorm you want (E Tower all the way!). Plus, you never know, freaky things might happen. I bagged in the same room I'm living in now. Already knew the layout. :)

If you have any particular questions, ask away says the freshman who will probably be hosting another bagger in January (I had one in November).

I had a great time at my sleeping bag weekend; it put CMU at the #1 spot on my list. I was one of the people who went to the O with Walden, though I'm not sure which one he was(were you one of the two that ran ahead?).

Yep, the one with with the shorter hair

blonde right?

nope, dark brown

OK...scary coincidences happen.

Also, one thing about Sleeping Bag Weekend kind of bothers me every time. The baggers stay here on Sunday night - and that's when everyone on campus is in their room rushing to finish the homework that they've been putting off all weekend. So people sit in their rooms complaining about their homework while their baggers cower in fear. Perhaps the idea is to show the baggers that coming here and expecting not to work fairly hard is a stupid and misguided idea.

Whereas at other schools (Rice comes to mind), they have them on a weekend where EVERYTHING is going on (parties, band concert, a capella concert, quartet concert) and all the baggers are there at once, so the campus looks happening.

The people I were with walked around pittsburgh with me, so I dunno.

Walden, I think I know who you are now.

My host was studying for the infamous 15-251 exam (hardest class taken by CS majors), and left me to entertain myself until midnight. I had to leave my bagger with someone for two hours because orchestra rehersals are Sunday nights. By the time I got back, she just had homework to do then went to sleep at midnight.

I'm planning to register for the January date, but the site says it's not accepting any reservations at the moment. :(
