alright. so i have like zero knowledge in the whole transfer area. i currently am a freshman at ucsd. upon completion of this spring quarter, i will have exactly 90 quarter units (meaning i'll have junior standing). i am a double major; mathematics and management science. i want to transfer to berkeley and get a double major in mathematics and econ.

unfortunately, econ is capped. so i guess the way i would do it, is next year, apply to berk as a math major, and then if i happen to get accepted, apply to econ as well once i'm actually attending berk and hope i get in.

now i looked up and 49% of math/physics major transfers get into berk. but this includes cc students. so i'm guessing roughly 30% of uc students get in? seems reasonable based on the fact that over 40% of ucla transfers got in, and over 30% of ucla from other uc transfers got in.

so that would be ok. downside, got a 3.1 first quarter. got a 3.6 last quarter. and by the next two quarters, my cumulative gpa will probably be almost exactly 3.5. does berk take into account the fact that you are at a uc so it's harder to get a higher gpa? or will they not give a crap? lol.

anyways, i've taken 4 upper division math classes already, and i'm only a freshman, so will that help offset the gpa? or is gpa just too important.

anyways, any feedback/comments/criticism/whatever is appreciated.

from what i've been told, transferring from a 4 year to another 4 year is more difficult because you're already at a 4-year so they don't see the need to transfer and also the uc's have a contract with the cc's that their students will have priority consideration. having said that, however, i do think they'll take into account the difficulty of courses offered at a 4 year than a cc.

also make sure that you can back door into your major.

i was thinking of applying to UCLA as a history major because political science is an impacted major thinking that once i was in to double major as well but a UCLA rep said that i couldn't do that. because it's compacted i would have to transfer into poli sci, i couldn't "back door" into.

hope this info helps.

it's good to consider that but i think it would be fine. it's not like it's impacted where no one can enter. just to get the major you have to apply separately within the first few weeks of any semester, and only those who applied with strong prereq grades get it. but anyone can apply. at least i think so...

anyone else?

isn't economics an impacted major?

hmm i think its taken into account that ur from a UC
but don't 4get ur not competing with other CC students
ur competing with 4 year to 4 years
cuz there is a cap of 10% of transfers for 4 year to 4 year so u shouldn't worry about what other CC students are doing or whats their GPA

ask around or see what kinda info u can get from ur school or from anywhere actually about the grades of the transfers from UC to UC
that'll give u a better idea on where u stand

it's capped. there's a slight difference. meaning a transfer can apply to the major once he gets there, he just might not get it.
